Acelyn Barcelite – Accounting and Bookkeeping

Acelyn-Barcelite-vaMy name is Acelyn Barcelite but you can call me Ace and I am from Cebu, Philippines. My interests include; traveling, playing volleyball, paper crafting, and doing volunteer work. I love to engage in the development of our community because it gives me unexplainable fulfillment. Back in college, I was a volunteer in teaching basic literacy and numeracy to the Banjao children affected by the Zamboanga Siege. I am also an advocate of sustainable development, reducing the single use of plastic to also help others to build a better environment.

I graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education Major in Mathematics as Cum Laude at Ateneo de Zamboanga University. I worked as a Senior High School Mathematics teacher handling General Mathematics, Statistics, and Calculus. After marriage, I decided to become a full time mom to focus on my son. When I became a member of FHMoms, it became an eye opener and they gave me hope that despite being a stay-at-home mom, I can still support my family financially.

Since I have a strong foundation in Mathematics, with no hesitation, I took a mastery course in Accounting and Bookkeeping then I had my Xero and QuickBooks certification. An opportunity came just after I finished the mastery course where I was hired as an Executive Virtual Assistant of a Real Estate company located in California. I performed multiple tasks like data entry, property research, updating agents daily attendance, managing agents billable hours and updating agents weekly performance thru score cards.

Acelyn-Barcelite-vaBut nothing beats the experience that I have of becoming a mother. As a full time mom, I learned so much about multitasking and time management. I can cook while doing the laundry and feeding my son. It also tested my patience down to its limit. That means to compose myself when my son can’t handle his emotions and is throwing tantrums. Motherhood also taught me to be compassionate and I learned how to listen effectively that will allow me to become a better employee that will bring value to the company. I am also knowledgeable on these following tools and applications: Microsoft Office, Dropbox, Gmail, Skype, Zoom, Calendly, Canva, Xencall, and Podio.

I consider myself as a work in progress because as of now, I enjoy watching free tutorials about excel’s tips and tricks. I had so many failed job applications but I turned them into lessons considering myself as a shopper looking for the perfect pair of shoes that suits my skills. I also enjoy doing the things that no one else is willing to do because I strongly believe if something won’t challenge you, then it won’t change you. I am a living proof of this phrase when I take the risk way back in college. I chose Mathematics as my major because I had a fear of this subject way back in high school. As an academic scholar, failure in one of the subjects means termination of the scholarship. But, I was able to conquer my fear because of my determination, diligence, hardwork, and intrinsic motivation. I was able to prove to myself that if I have my goal with a purpose nothing is impossible. As a newbie in freelancing, I know I still have so much to learn and I need to fill more skills under my sleeves to deliver the best output that my clients need.
