Alleana Lubao – Civil Engineer, Assistant Quantity Surveyor
Hi! I am Alleana. I graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering, took the board exam, and am now a licensed Civil Engineer. It was my dream to become a Civil Engineer, knowing that I would be working on a construction site, excited to see the buildings and houses rise up. I would never have thought that I would be working from home. Reality hits it that the construction industry is so stressful, some might say that it is toxic, especially for female engineers like me, that’s why I am looking forward to finding a job where I can work in the comfort of my home while still pursuing my career choice.
My first job was as an assistant quantity surveyor for a construction company. I have dealt with different teams, clients, project managers, engineers and a lot of paperwork. As I was searching for a job, I saw an opportunity for me to work from home. It is a big leap for me since working as a Civil Engineer requires tasks such as site visits and tests that are usually conducted on-site. It is exciting and gives me joy to know that I would be able to pursue my career whilst working in the comfort of my home. However, it is not an easy choice, given the new environment, dealing with a lot of unknowns but I decided to take a leap of faith and start working remotely. I graduated from Quezon Province, started my first job in Laguna and now I am residing here in Pampanga. Given this kind of situation, I have learned to adapt to different kinds of people. Moving from one place to another is really a hassle for me, and that’s why I would to start a career as a Virtual Assistant, working in the comfort of my home, without having to travel, without having to sacrifice the time for my family.
I understand that working at home is a lot different from the set up at an office, but I believe that this would be best for me. I would not have to stress myself finding and renting a different place for me to stay and especially, I don’t have to endure the problems in transportation. Plus, I would get to spend more time with my family and loved ones
I really look forward to starting my career as a Virtual Assistant and as a Quantity Surveyor as well. I aim that the skills and knowledge that I have right now will be enhanced, and I will gain the experience that will lead me to the success of the career path I chose.
