Andrine Salem – Order Entry Processor
Hi! My name is Andrine Salem, and this is my story. I was born to my mother, who at the time was a maid for our father’s family. I was always a quiet kid growing up and was experiencing a spiritual connection and is said to be a really smart kid. My aunt raised me along with my sister because my mother suddenly disappeared; they say it was a mental health issue; others argued that it may be caused by postpartum-related mental illnesses, as I was left at one year old and my sister a few months old. I grew up shy, only finding courage later on in life, that you are not supposed to take all the blame and let people get away with it. I developed gout at an early age, but it didn’t stop me from working with our business or becoming a barista, as being a barista was my dream at that moment. I quit my job as a barista because it felt like the company never saw me as a valuable employee even though I made sure we passed inspections, as I never slacked off work and cleaned and organised what I could during non-peak hours. I entered a state of crisis as I didn’t know what I wanted with my life. I was working with different companies as an on-call employee, putting up their shop online, listing their products, cleaning documentation papers, or making sure employee attendance coincided with their paycheck. All this happened with my best friend besides me, who held me during tough times, only to find out he was extremely sick. I dropped everything to take care of him, later becoming extremely depressed after he died. I then worked as a medical virtual assistant in a BPO company as an order entry
specialist for a pharmaceutical company. We were responsible for entering medicinal orders from doctors and calling nurses, making sure everything was right with their medicines and insurance. The pharmaceutical company was later bought, so we were put on floating status. I was rehired a month after receiving commendations from tenured agents. Unfortunately, my gout became severe at the time, and I wasn’t able to come back after working for a week, so I promptly resigned. These days I’ve been taking care of my family, cooking and cleaning for them. When my dog suddenly couldn’t walk due to old age, I realised I might enter into a depressive state, so I started applying for jobs again, this time with a dream of owning a self-sufficient house.
