Anjelyn Valiente – Customer Service Representative

A Journey of Growth and Resilience

Growing up, I’ve always believed that success isn’t just about talent but about determination, hard work, and resilience. Looking back at my journey, I realise it’s been shaped by both triumphs and challenges, each moment contributing to who I am today.

In my junior year of high school, I had the privilege of graduating with honours from the Special Mandarin class. Learning Mandarin was both a challenge and an exciting adventure, and I remember the sense of pride I felt when I mastered the language. This experience opened my eyes to global communication, sparking my curiosity about cultures and international relations, which would play an important role in shaping my future.

By my senior year, I again found success, graduating with honours from the HUMSS (Humanities and Social Sciences) strand. My passion for understanding human behaviour and society grew, and I flourished in my studies. At the same time, I knew I was ready for something new, and I set my sights on further education that would allow me to make a real impact in the world.

This led me to the University of Cebu Main Campus, where I enrolled in the BS Customs Administration program. I was excited to learn about international trade, customs law, and the intricacies of global commerce. However, life had other plans. As the pandemic unfolded, many aspects of my life changed. The uncertainty of the situation made me realise that my immediate priorities were shifting, and I found myself diving into the workforce instead of continuing my studies.

In 2020, I began working as a customer care associate for a BPO company, handling a retail account. It was my first real job, and while I was new to the corporate world, I quickly adapted and learned valuable skills in customer communication, problem-solving, and staying calm under pressure. This experience not only helped me develop confidence but also gave me the financial stability to support my family, as I am the breadwinner.

Over time, I grew more comfortable in the workforce, and my career took me in several directions. I moved into the insurance industry, where I worked as an Insurance Specialist. In this role, I assisted clients with their insurance needs, which honed my attention to detail and my ability to explain complex topics clearly and concisely.

Next, I found myself working with a robotic and autonomous company based in Singapore, where I served as a sales assistant. This position exposed me to the cutting-edge world of automation and robotics, helping me to understand the exciting technological advances shaping the future of industries worldwide. I felt proud to contribute to a company that was leading innovation in this space.

Along the way, I also explored freelancing opportunities, working in outbound calling and digital marketing. These roles offered me flexibility and allowed me to develop a range of skills, from sales to digital strategy, all while continuing to grow professionally.

Though I initially pursued a degree in Customs Administration, I realised that my passion was in working across various industries, gaining hands-on experience, and continuously developing new skills. My journey so far has been diverse and fulfilling, and it’s taught me that the best way to learn is through real-world experiences.

Now, with a foundation built on strong professional experiences, I am confident in my ability to adapt to new challenges and thrive in any industry I choose to pursue. I’m proud of the progress I’ve made and the lessons I’ve learned along the way, and I’m excited for the future as I continue to build on my experiences.
