Cay Ann Baguioro – General Virtual Assistant

cay-ann-baguioro-vaHi, I am Cay Ann Baguioro, but you can call me Cay for short. I am a mother of 2 kids. My eldest is a 10-year-old boy and my youngest is 2 years old with autism spectrum disorder. I graduated with a degree of Bachelor of Science in Hotel and Restaurant Management last 2009. When I graduated, I started to work as Administrative Assistant in Oceana Events Place for a year. I handle the events staff, inventory of the fixed assets, assisting guests during the event.

Then I got an opportunity to work near my place. I worked in Puregold Price club Inc. as Administrative Assistant. I have been with them for 3 years. I am handling Checking of Office supplies, Government Permits, handling petty cash, Request for payments, and other task given by the manager from time to time.  Unexpected news came, that I have an invitation for an interview. This was a big opportunity for me that time because the client is from United Arab Emirates. Luckily, I passed. I went abroad and worked in EROS Group as a Secretary / Receptionist of the General Manager in Abu Dhabi.

Being an Overseas Filipino Worker was not easy. At first it was fun and exciting, but as the days went by, the feeling of homesickness started to hit. But I had to be brave for my family. When I was a secretary, I was handling staffs for over 6 branches of EROS group in different places in Abu Dhabi. I was also handling all their request such as Leaves, Over time, Office/ Pantry Supplies, Repairs, and maintenance. I had to consolidate and send it to my manager for his approval. Then the company decided to transfer me in our Head Office branch in Dubai as a Billing Officer. I handle Encoding of Sales Invoice for local and international delivery.

cay-ann-baguioro-vaAfter 3 years, I had to go back to Philippines because my father died. I honestly asked for a sign if I am going to back abroad or not. Then, one day again one client offered me to work for her as an Admin and Accounts in Life N’ one Wellness Center in Dubai UAE where I encode invoices using XERO software, handle the reception area, answer customers inquiries and Sales Report every day. The client asked me to look for another job as she cannot give an employment VISA which is very important in UAE. So, I searched for a new job. I got a new job after a month. I had an offer to work as a Receptionist and Secretary also in Dental Clinic. This is the work that I think I can I really enjoy a lot. I was dealing with locals, Arabic and other nationalities coming into the clinic. I set appointments for our patients, send claim forms to Insurance companies, handle office supplies, help the doctors inside the procedures room if needed, book flights, arrange gifts and other stuff for my manager’s family.

But things will not always be as easy and as happy as that. Again, I had to go back to the Philippines for good because my daughter was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder level 3. I went back to Philippines and started to search for a new job while I’m at home. Luckily, I got hired at CONCETRIX as a Reservations Specialist (Airline Account). It was challenging for me because working in an office and at home is different.

Being a mom of two is hard especially because my youngest is with special needs. I didn’t have a choice but to resign because agents are being asked to work back on site. I stayed at home as an online seller for a year, then decided to go search for a job again. I got hired as an Admin Assistant in an Architectural Firm where I post our services to different social media platforms, print architectural plans and answer emails and inquiries. This is a family-owned business, one day they have decided to close because of the competition.

Now, I am looking forward to getting a job which is a work from home.  I believe that if I work from home, I can provide for my family and spend more time with my kids. These will be challenging for me because of the new tools and tasks that might be assigned to me but I am willing to learn and gain new skills. I believe in the saying that “hard work pays off”
