Chedelyn Tabalba – CSR, Technical Assistant

chedelyn-gee-tabalba-vaI always thought that my dream was to be an author where I could start a small Indie publishing house and beat Random House Publishing. I imagined myself in a coffee shop reading the introduction of the next best-selling adventure novel. For me, it seemed like an appropriate dream given my BA in Literature.

But I ventured out and wandered off to different nationalities: I became an English language instructor to Korean, Chinese and Japanese citizens, a customer service representative to American citizens, a virtual assistant to an Australian citizen and a government employee to Filipino citizens! I also gravitated toward proofreading, editing and teaching positions and even started to lead a publication in college for 4 years. There, I learned to be an agent for the administration of justice and the voice of the least, the lost and the last.

And that’s when it happened: the spark I was missing ignited the instant I read a news article pertaining to social injustices in the country. Since then, I can’t get enough of the societal issues that I hear and read every day. Because of my drive to serve others, I became a member and a volunteer of the Philippine Red Cross – Davao City Chapter and I was inspired to propel good to the marginalised people in my society. My team and I was shortlisted in a national film workshop where violence against women was the theme. I familiarised myself with the latest news and the laws that needed scrutiny. In short, I was unstoppable. I was driven with a purpose.

chedelyn-gee-tabalba-outdoorI am currently a law student and I love applying my knowledge of the law in my experiences in:

a) education, where there is a need to implement reasonable tuition fees to students who belong to low-income families;
b) human resource management, where codes of discipline must be strictly applied and that employees are aware of its regulations;
c) communications services, where users are experiencing the best quality of services without compromising their money; and
d) creative industry, where I can apply the societal issues in creative ways like poetry, prose, short films and documentaries.

I think in a way, I’m kind of like the law; I’m moldable and flexible, but I still keep my creative flare intact.

My specialties include quickly learning new skills in communication and project management software, English communication skills, great command in writing and editing, warmth in customer service, practical problem solving, film production management and drafting memorandums and policies. I’m still enthusiastically grabbing onto any other skills or principles so I can integrate these aspects into my head.

In these challenging times of the pandemic, I always remind myself that being challenged in life is inevitable, but being defeated is optional.
