Cherdim Magallano – Social Media Manager, Virtual Assistant

Hi I’m Cherdim Magallano. Most people call me Dim. Youngest of the family. I have two older siblings– an Engineer and a Nurse. We grew up in different places due to my father’s work reassignment, but have been staying here in Bacolod City for 16 years. I am very much used to adjusting to different environments and cultures. Aside from English, I can speak three more local dialects/languages. I describe myself as someone who likes to appreciate even the littlest things. I feel happy even with the smallest of things. As the youngest of the family, I am also considered as the mood-maker slash “life of the party”. My siblings would describe me as someone who is overly organised and has “OC” tendencies. I have a passion for fashion too and I also like watching sports because I used to be a volleyball player.

After graduating from college with a degree in Psychology, my father decided to retire early and I decided to help with our little family business first. It was an LPG retail store. I felt like I had to help since my siblings were already busy and are working in another city/region. The business did not go well and I had to look for a corporate job, and I did. The position I got in the Human Resource Department was only for 6 months, my contract ended just when the pandemic started. It was a short but memorable job experience.

Since the pandemic started, I knew I had to look for a job that would not cost the safety of our family. It was my goal to look for one that doesn’t require me to get exposed to the virus. I was looking for online jobs and have this idea of applying as a Virtual Assistant at the back of my mind. Luckily, I got one through referrals. From working in a corporate environment, I gained confidence in my basic computer skills and my social skills which I know would be very helpful as a VA. Also, my being a team player and willingness to learn is something I know would be vital if I take on this new job that I found. My passion grew as I started working as a Social Media VA. I have 9 months worth of good experience from my first Client. Even though it was my first time, I already learned a lot from scratch and it made me think I could excel in this field by continuously learning, through perseverance, and guidance & support from co-workers.
