Elyjoy Baay – Virtual Assistant, Graphic Designer

Hi, I am Ellie. I am from the Philippines. I studied Bachelor of Secondary Education at Alitagtag College and am an undergraduate in Marketing Management.

At 19, I started working as a nanny just so I can help my parents financially. My boss was an ESL teacher and this started my eagerness to work online. I applied as an ESL teacher and wasn’t hired due to a lack of experience as a teacher. This led me to apply as a cashier in a department store. It took me 2 years to finally realise I really wanted to work online, but again, my application as an ESL teacher was not granted. I went back to my previous boss and again, worked as a nanny while I explored the freelancing world. A year later, I was hired by my boss to be an Admin Assistant to her business and that is when I started to learn about tools used on administrative tasks. This pushed me to research and learn more about working remotely and heard about being a Virtual Assistant.

Two years later, I took the courage to resign and started applying on different job sites. It took me a year to finally land my first client- an Australian Client. I started to work for him as a Part-Time VA and eventually a Full-time VA. I was able to learn more and realised there is more to being a Virtual Assistant. We need to upskill and study more about the trends to keep up as a VA. Because working remotely isn’t just about the convenience of working in the comfort of your home, it is about how well we are in maintaining a work-life balance, having more time with our families and how you make yourself better each and every step of the way and at the same time work and give the best service to business owners around the world.
