Gretel Garcilian Laggui – Certified Public Accountant

gretel-laggui-profileMy name is Gretel. Yes, from the fairytale story and I have a brother named Hansel.

I have three brothers and I am the youngest. I have been fortunate for having supportive parents. Ever since I was young, they always told us that their dream is for our dreams to become reality. That pushed me to study hard and be a Certified Public Accountant.

I got my Bachelor’s Degree in Accountancy at the Philippine School of Business Administration. I tried hard to finish this 5-year course. I was a full-time student back then and my way of helping my parents financially was to get high grades and receive scholarships. My parents never failed to show how proud they are.

After finishing college in 2015, I enrolled in a review center to get prepared for the board exam. This is the part where you have to tell yourself “Finish what you started!”. The exam days came and I never stopped thinking of all those sleepless nights and my parents’ sacrifices to get through this. After two weeks of waiting, I got the most rewarding 3-letter of my life, CPA. Everything paid off when I saw my name on the list.

After I took my oath, I applied for a job and fortunately I got a position as a Finance Analyst at one of the biggest diversified conglomerates here in the gretel-laggui-vacationPhilippines, San Miguel Corporation. I have worked for them for almost 4 years. The responsibilities that I had were to prepare monthly income statement, cost analysis, financial variance analysis, and financial projections.

My daily tasks were accounts receivable and accounts payable monitoring and also audit of invoices. I am experienced in financial reports presentation during operations reviews. My responsibilities require proficiency in using spreadsheets because it’s a great factor for efficiency. During my stay in the company, I handled a lot of responsibilities and whenever they assigned a new one, I was more than willing to learn and gain new knowledge because it helped me grow.

I don’t treat my job as a source of burden but something that will help me grow personally and professionally. Now, my journey as an online freelancer starts here. I can say that this is all new to me but I love challenging myself. I always have the drive to continue learning by experience. I am now ready to accept the challenge!
