Haide Tanoy – Administrative Assistant
Hi, my name is Haide Tanoy; you can call me by my first name or just “Haids.” I am married and a full-time mother to my 9-month-old daughter. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology majoring in General Biology at the University of Southeastern Philippines here in Davao City.
Before becoming a mother at present, I started out working as a customer service representative for three BPO companies for two years. I had to deal with offshore customers with different beliefs and perspectives in life. It was 2 long years where I had to deal with sleep deprivation and had to travel far, whether it was raining or not, just to arrive at my workplace. Even though working in a BPO setting is a bit frustrating, I was still grateful for the chance because that was where I honed my skills in communication. It made me confident in talking to people different from the language I use. After working in the BPO setting, I ventured to a different workplace where I worked in the morning shift. It was one of the famous logistics companies here in the Philippines, and I worked as an employee relations associate. There I acted as a bridge between the employer and the employees. I administered monthly meetings and hearings to employees who violated the company’s code of conduct. I was also in charge of sending notices to employees regarding their tardiness, absences, and termination. For me, it was a great experience because I was able to learn some parts of the Labour Code, which I want to study after my degree. Later on, after my 3-month maternity leave, I decided to stop working so I could take care of my newborn baby.
Being a full-time mother was never an easy job for me. However, I still always think of applying for a job so I can help my husband with paying the bills. A lot of my friends on social media shared posts about becoming a virtual assistant and sharing how nice it is, not just because of the hourly pay but also because of the opportunity to work at home. I was amazed and started applying to different agencies and online job platforms. By applying for almost 6 months, I have learned how to be patient and not to stop until I am not getting what I want. For me, working from home may never be easy, but it would be a great help for unemployed individuals, especially mothers, as they can still be present for their family around the clock while still supporting them financially.
