Irene Tapere – Customer Support, Virtual Assistant

Hi! My name is Irene from Cebu, and my friends would call me Ai. I am a mother of a 9-year-old boy who loves to play basketball. This loving daughter bravely took the responsibility of taking care of all the bills and expenses at home and supporting my parents since I graduated from college in 2012. I took Bachelor in Secondary Education and passed the Licensure Examination for Teachers in 2013, but I never had the chance to teach. It was a long-forgotten dream I needed to set aside because I have a family to support and the pay system in teaching is not as promising as working in BPO.

I started my BPO career shortly after I graduated from college. I was a customer representative for a year and became the account’s first born and raised lead trainer handling new hire classes, upskilling, and refresher classes. There, I had the chance to showcase my facilitation skills and was always commended by the regular and premium account managers for aiding the training needs and addressing the gap in hitting operation targets. I left the company in the middle of pandemic, 2020, as we were continuously sent to work sites even with the dangers brought by Covid-19.

Fortunately, I immediately got a work-from-home offer for a team lead role where I sharpened my coaching skills, team management, and performance monitoring among the team members. It lasted for 3 years but the companies began to send people back to the site.

As a mom who wished to make up for the time she had lost with her son growing up since I had him in 2015, I decided to look for a permanent work-at-home setup. This opportunity will help me balance my family commitments and career aspirations. I had the opportunity to work with clients within the customer service scope which helped me provide while spending more time with my son. I hope and pray to continue improving my skills while working from home. This drive became more intentional when I lost my dad in 2022 due to colon cancer and realised that life is short and that each minute is valuable and has to be spent with the people who matter most to you.

Please allow me to add that I’m the luckiest because when I’m at work, I don’t worry about my son as my mom takes care of him.

I strive to advance in my career while continuously learning new skills and gaining knowledge to improve myself and apply what I learned to both my work and personal life.
