Jehazel Rivera – Billing and Patient Collections Specialist, Customer Service Representative
Hi, I am Jehazel Rivera, you can call me Hazel. I am the youngest among my family members and am now the breadwinner of our small family of three. I hold a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration major in Human Resources.
After I graduated, I tried exploring Metro Manila for career opportunities that may help me grow and gain experience. My career journey then started when I landed a job as a customer service representative for a healthcare account. It helped me develop excellent communication and problem-solving skills. In summary, I gained solid customer service experience as I’ve worked for telecommunications and healthcare accounts previously.
I started working as a freelancer during the pandemic, and it has become our bread and butter during those times. I worked as an online ESL educator, and that helped us survive the pandemic. Being an educator wasn’t easy, especially in an online setting. I was able to develop a greater sense of responsibility, discipline, and a high level of commitment through this. I tried exploring more career opportunities in the freelancing industry after the pandemic. Being an online ESL educator is good; however, it wasn’t able to sustain us in the long run. Unfortunately, I failed to find better remote opportunities at that time, so I had to explore the corporate industry once more due to pressure and the need for financial provision.
Fast forward, I resigned after a year and finally got another remote opportunity right away. I was hired by a direct client as a remote Medical Collections Specialist last year. This is where I developed a strong sense of flexibility and organisational skills. I learned how to be resourceful and proactive in sharing my ideas on how to improve our process as well. I also discovered that I am both a great team player and am comfortable working independently.
My goal is to explore and grow more in this industry. I want to step out of my comfort zone and leverage my skills for new opportunities. I am also aware that I cannot stay stagnant and comfortable with what I know. That’s why I continue on upskilling and am always in the mode of self-learning. I want to widen my scope of expertise and challenge myself to go beyond what I’m used to. I am confident that my strong work ethic, adaptability, attention to detail, and reliability make me an outstanding Virtual Assistant.
