Jemila Itsosime Shaibu – Writing and Social Media

jemila-itsosime-shaibu-officeMy name is Jemila Shaibu.

I am a Virtual Assistant. I’m Motivated, driven and focused in achieving set goals. I have a competitive attitude and can thrive under pressure. I am media savvy, articulate, well presented, well organised, eager to learn and pro-active. I am able to work alone without supervision.

I’m the last born of my family. I love writing, reading, and being productive in general.

I have a degree in Optometry (OD). In my third year of university, I decided to be independent. I started job hunting and I found a job as a blogger and copywriter for an online news blog. This was a new experience for me as it was my first ever job and I enjoyed the two years I worked as a blogger.

In my 6th year in college, I went on a solo and externship industrial training for a year. I had to stop working. But I missed having a job, so when I was done with my industrial training, I went back into the workforce and applied for a new job. I was hired as a virtual assistant for a marketing company in Tacoma.

jemila-itsosime-shaibu-profileFrom a virtual assistant, I took up other responsibilities like a social media manager and accounting. I started a blog as an outlet for my thoughts in 2016, and since then it has grown to be something more. I write about Lifestyle, Health, Food and optometry related articles.

In my spare time, I love looking for recipes online because I love cooking and baking, especially for my family. I enjoy the looks on their faces when they tell me that my recipe is perfect.

I wish to go further in my studies to get an MSc in public health, probably next year. I’m currently applying for scholarships to schools abroad. This will put me on the path to being a better Healthcare Professional in my country and also widen my horizons.

I could say I’m an introvert because, growing up as the youngest in the family, I didn’t have so much opportunity to play with other kids. I was always indoors. I found myself able to read at a very early age. As early as 4 years old, I started reading books and I’m very thankful to my mum who encouraged me. I believe this helped my education and also helped my self-confidence. Through reading, I was able to improve my English.

In my family I’d say I’m closest to my mum.
