Jenia May Basbas – General Virtual Assistant, Customer Service Representative

Hi! My name is Jenia May Basbas, but you can call me Jen. And my story is the story of every eldest daughter in a Filipino household.

I studied at the University of the Philippines and pursued a degree in Education. However, due to some unfortunate circumstances, I had to stop without finishing and seek employment immediately. I stepped in to take responsibility of the costs of my two younger siblings’ schooling.

I got a job at a BPO company. In there, I experienced taking 60 calls per day. Because of the grueling nature of the work, I also developed a lot of skills that I find useful even to this day. I had to entice customers to book hotel reservations and try out their amenities. I had to upsell credit cards to high rollers of a casino. I also experienced resolving billing issues for a telecommunications company.

My latest role was somewhat also my first taste of being a virtual assistant. Because of the pandemic, we had to switch from the traditional office setup to working at home. I was upskilled to the highest level of support and had to perform roles that would usually be executed by two or three departments. I got to handle cancellations, reservations, basic insurance, and other tasks. I also managed email support, sending emails not less than 30 a day and chat support, assisting 5 customers per transaction. I would always get high customer satisfaction scores and commendations about my communication and problem-solving skills. My strengths also include my efficiency – I finish tasks with swiftness and within the time that is allotted. Additionally, I am a fast-learner which gives me the confidence I will be able to learn anything that is necessary the fulfill the role of a Virtual Assistant in no time.

After seven years, I have achieved my goal of helping my siblings graduate. Now, I want to lend a helping hand to others so they, too, can reach their own goals.
