Jill Althea Dumapias – Patient Concierge, Customer Service Advocate
Hello, I’m Jill Althea Dumapias, but you can call me Jill. I’m a proud fur mom to three wonderful dogs – two French Bulldogs and one Japanese Spitz. My family and our fur babies are what drives us to work harder to provide for them and spoil them as much as possible.
I graduated with a degree of Bachelor of Science in Accountancy from Stella Maris College. I tried my luck and took the CPA Licensure Exam once but didn’t pass and so I decided to work instead to cover the expenses which my mom supported me with during my review.
My first job was as an HR Payroll staff at an automobile manufacturing company. However, I soon realised that the pay didn’t match the workload, and I became sickly due to the demanding schedule. So, I decided to resign and look for a new opportunity.
In March 2019, I joined a healthcare BPO company as a customer service advocate. When Covid hit in 2020, we were advised to work from home. Even though I worked on night shifts, I enjoyed the job. I love helping customers with their inquiries, and my hard work paid off. I received several awards such as net promoter score award, first call resolution award and the 2020 Edge Award for achieving a perfect overall score of 5 for the year.
On the night of December 16, 2021, a super typhoon hit the entire island of Cebu and the neighboring islands were also affected. We were instructed to go back to the office. For months, I had to travel to work and there was no electricity everywhere. It was so dark, which made commuting very dangerous. One day, a colleague mentioned virtual assistant work, and after doing some research, I realised it was a better fit for me, as it would eliminate the potential dangers of commuting every day. I quit my job in July 2022 and applied to VA companies. The next month, I got hired as a patient concierge for an Australian telehealth company. That’s how my VA journey started.
Thanks to my work, I was able to invest in a small 39 coffee franchise. It’s a small business, but I believe it’s a good start. Right now, I’m not interested in traveling or trying new things. My main goal is to save in order to build a cozy home and get a car of my own so we don’t have to rely on public transportation. I want the freedom to take my family anywhere we like. Once I reach that goal, I plan to travel outside of the country since I’ve never had the chance to do so before.
I’m new to the industry, having worked with just one client so far as a virtual assistant. However, I was really satisfied with the pay and enjoyed a much better work-life balance. It allowed me to spend more time with myself, my family, friends, fur babies as well as manage our business.
Unfortunately, after two years and six months working with the client, my colleagues and I ended our contract last January of this year after they chose to hire employees who could work physically in their office in Australia. Now, I’m actively seeking a new opportunity where I can apply my knowledge and skills. I’m hopeful that someone will see me as a great fit for the role they’re hiring for and recognise my potential to be a valuable partner.
Being a virtual assistant showed me that there are many opportunities beyond the office work. I’m reliable and always put my heart into everything I do. I also welcome feedback from both clients and colleagues, as it helps me grow. There’s still a lot for me to learn, and I’m excited to continue improving and evolving in my role as a virtual assistant
Join me on this journey, and let’s work together as a team!
