Jochelle Gellido – Human Resource Specialist
I am Jochelle Gellido! I would prefer if people called me “Joch.” I was born and raised in the Philippines, and I am currently living with my parents, brother, and 5 fat cats. I enjoy learning new things, so I have different hobbies to pass my time. I like sketching, stitching, painting, playing games, and browsing through social media. I do also have an interest in current events and the like.
I was never an independent person before; my parents made sure I never applied for part-time jobs till I graduated college—they wanted me to focus on my studies, which was the thing that I never understood before. When I graduated, I felt very scared entering adulthood at 19 years old, so commuting and being alone most of the time has been a very challenging thing for me. I was able to overcome it as time went by and was able to make my own decisions and face new faces every time. And with the help of one of my hobbies (which I wasn’t able to mention above), which is cosplaying, I was able to learn how to commute so far away that my parents can’t imagine. I made new friends out of my usual ones, and I was able to experience new things.
As for my professional background, I mostly have HR experience aside from my short experience as a sales admin and call centre representative. I never imagined that a shy and awkward person like me could muster up her courage to pursue the profession she dreamed of having. They doubted me at first, maybe because of my age, but I constantly prove that training and guidance can always do wonders. I was able to be exposed to many things, like going to job fairs and communicating with schools, even going to Visayas and Mindanao so that I can conduct processes and meet and communicate with employees about their needs—it’s taxing if you may ask, as I am an introvert, but I felt very fulfilled at the same time. Able to stand firm and confident whenever talking to executives and interviewing people with high calibre and leading a team. I never thought I could handle those things. The profession made me so resilient that my previous manager called me “cactus”—she said that I am a person who can take different kinds of moods professionally without even blinking, then acknowledge and plan what needs to be done and call it a day.
As the years went by, I thought that some things that I once loved have been fading. One day, I decided that I wanted to pursue a new career—that I felt like I was too comfortable with my profession and that I had become so stagnant. I decided to leave my expertise and venture to the unknown world of virtual assistance. And for once, I felt very unfamiliar with everything—not scared anymore but unfamiliar. And when I attended sessions of coaching, I was able to build myself and prepare for the new path that I am going on. I am constantly learning as I walk through this tough road. It’s challenging, discouraging, and encouraging all mixed up, so I am happy that my drive to learn still exists.
I hope this short introduction of myself opens some doors for you all to get to know me.
