Johaisa Amora Datumanong – Virtual Assistant, Tutor

I graduated from college in March 2021, and by July, I started working as a private tutor. I continued tutoring for almost two years, up until February 2023. Honestly, it wasn’t just about teaching kids their lessons—it was about helping them grow, figuring out their learning styles, and adjusting my approach to meet their needs. That experience really shaped how I organise things, manage time, and communicate with others.

In April 2023, one of my old college professors reached out to me with an unexpected opportunity. She was working as an executive assistant for someone in the disability care industry and needed some help with administrative tasks. Even though I wasn’t directly involved with the client, I saw this as a huge chance to take on more responsibilities. Some people might call it outsourcing, but for me, it felt more like selling my skills where they were needed. I viewed it as real-world training, diving into things like managing calendars, organising files, and keeping everything running smoothly.

During this time, I got pretty good with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. I wasn’t just entering data or sending emails—I was creating documents, taking meeting notes, and updating presentations. Every task, no matter how small, felt like an important part of keeping everything on track, similar to how I supported my students when I was tutoring.

On the personal side, I’m a mom to three—one preschooler and twins, so life is always busy! Despite the chaos, I find so much joy in simple things, like cooking for my family. After a long day, my personal little treat is to sit down with a cup of milk tea and some spicy Samyang noodles. It’s my go-to way to unwind before ending the day.

Balancing work, family, and my personal time has taught me a lot about patience, staying organised, and being adaptable. These are skills I know I can bring to your team. I’m always eager to learn and improve, and I believe my background in tutoring and virtual assistance has set me up to succeed.
