Julen Carolasan – Customer Service Representative
Hi, I am Julen! I am the eldest of three. A year before I graduated with a degree in Management Accounting, my father had died. This gave me a greater sense of responsibility to my family and enabled me to become more open to new learnings, especially in this fast-paced world where to become more competitive, you should always be updated and never stop upgrading. That was the time when I started learning things that were not directly related to my degree and that was also the reason why I took the opportunity – my first job. It was challenging because we handled sensitive data and a small mistake can already be detrimental to internal and external parties. However, I cannot deny that once you get used to it, it will be smooth sailing.
A few months later, I was suddenly transferred to another job function because of the urgent need from that team. It was tough because it challenged my greatest weakness before which was communication. As someone who is introverted, doesn’t like talking a lot and whose first language isn’t English, it was a nightmare! My job was to continuously contact the employers of our borrowers, mostly through phone calls, to verify their employment status. However, I came to realize that I needed to try my best as nothing great would happen if I’ll continually escape from facing my fears. It was not an easy journey but all I can say is it was indeed worth it! I became more competent in my tasks and valuable to the team. I came to realize that sometimes, all it takes is for someone to believe in you because someone who has no experience can provide unimaginable favorable contributions to one’s team but, you should first believe in yourself and your potential.
While working on-site was indeed enjoyable as you can deal with your colleagues face to face, working from home is a dream for me. As a family-oriented person whose family members live in different places, it would enable me to have a work-life balance which will be helpful in my wellness and my work performance. Despite being new to this field of work and work arrangement, combined with my strong work ethic and transferrable skills, I am confident that I will quickly adapt as I am eager to learn the new systems and applications required for me to become a successful VA.
