Liza Mae Torres – Administrative Assistant, ESL

liza-mae-torres-vaWell, let me start by saying that I love our furry friends, particularly cats. I like watching movies, playing computer games and eating at restaurants too. I also find nature sightseeing and swimming as fun outdoor activities. I also enjoy learning new and interesting concepts, ideologies and new technology.

Moreover, teaching has always been enjoyable for me, especially if I see my student’s progress. This extends to helping a client succeed in executing their plans and achieving their objectives. Although they may be work, I consider these as rewarding experiences.

In terms of my profession, I am a certified English teacher. However, I started gaining work experience in BPO industries as a call center agent. During that time, I learned some insights about the real world and how business is done. I realized the importance of customer service and how it impacts customer experience and satisfaction. This ultimately affects a company’s image, reputation, management, strategies and success. Moreover, talking with native speakers on a daily basis definitely helped me hone my communication skills in the English language.

When I decided to move on, I took up some units in MBM from a local university. I considered it a precious time of my life since I learned a lot more about management. I learned even more from my colleagues’ various background experiences since we came from different fields and walks of life.

While studying, I worked part time in a local steel company, which started my career and experience in office work and administration for the following companies. A few of which were various industries abroad. Since teaching English was in demand and still is, I had some part time tutorials and other teaching gigs here and there.

When it was time to head back home, I tried teaching English online. I niched down to adult students, since I find having classes with them more engaging and thought provoking yet conversational. Other than that, I appreciated the perks of being able to choose our own class schedule and having the option to either work part time or full time.

Of course, it has not always been rainbows and sunshine for me, I have had my share of ups and downs. So, I continue to keep learning and looking for better pastures. This leads my journey here. I hope you will be part of that too as I will be with yours. And even better, for it to become an engaging, fruitful and rewarding life long journey.
