Majeed Hanif – Accountant, Executive Assistant

majeed-hanif-vaMy name is Majeed Hanif. I was born to a family of five. I was born sickly and often had to make the hospital my home. I had at one point spent Christmas, New Year’s Eve and my own birthday at a medical facility because I was afflicted with primary complex and persistent asthma. My situation took a heavy toll on my family, both financially and emotionally. Despite this, my mother never gave up and offered me up to God and asked for the intercession of saints for God to make me well and healthy. Soon, my mum’s prayers were answered; I became healthy and since 6th grade never again did I have to be admitted to a hospital.

I grew up healthy and happily thanks to my mother who supported me both financially and emotionally with some support from my estranged father. For several years my life was uneventful and happy. I always felt blessed because God had given me so much and never did I have to worry about making ends meet, nor what to eat the next day because my family provided for everything I needed to the best of their ability – and for what I wanted that I could not obtain, my mum was very honest and that led me to be understanding and content.

There was one thing, however, that haunted me. I could not choose my own college program because my father had his own plans for me. Although I was unhappy about that, I always chose to work with what I have and not look beyond my means. I believe nothing can be accomplished by looking and demanding for unrealistic or unreachable what if’s. Rather, I should look at what is before me and work from there for it is in the little things we have that we are able to grow and accomplish many things.

By doing this, I was able to learn to love my college program and even cried when I failed because I didn’t make it to the cut of the intended grade and I was removed from my college program of Accountancy. Because of this, I somehow felt that my world had collapsed and ended. Looking back, however, I decided to keep my faith strong and pray. This helped me look forward to a brighter future ahead of me. I’m not perfect and will never be. With my family’s support, I decided on continuing to a college degree with similar course content and with a ladder to the BS Accountancy program. My failure taught me to look at myself and do things the “Majeed” way rather than trying to emulate others. I chose to know my own strengths and weaknesses and to take it from there. This is what ultimately propelled me to graduate not only with an Accounting Technology Degree but with the prized BS Accountancy degree and passing the CPA Licensure Examinations.

majeed-hanif-vaAfter passing the CPA exams, however, I immediately found out that my beloved mother was suffering from stage four lung cancer. I felt emotionally distraught. I didn’t know what to do. I felt that all was lost. Still, God is good! He provided my mother with good care, that even though more than a year has passed she is alive and healthy, able to walk on her own, smile and laugh happily and be the same cheerful mother she is, even better.

After this, I was able to start working as an Operations Auditor for a retail company and met a lot of good colleagues and superiors who have exposed me to various parts of the business from its operations down to the accounting processes. I was able to help provide solutions to accounting problems that caused material mis-statements in the financial statements as well as solutions to critical issues that may create unnecessary liabilities by means of gathering financial and non-financial audit evidence, subjecting them through analysis with a spreadsheet program, and providing recommendations based on my expertise as a CPA.

Today, I continue to lead my life with my mother as my inspiration. She has taught me to always live with integrity and honesty even when others do not, be conscious and conscientious with the way others feel and to always put my best foot forward. While my life is plain and simple, I believe my story is a testament to God’s unending blessings and I hope to be a blessing to the clients I am about to meet and serve. That said, I am ready to work for you as your Xero Bookkeeper having recently learned how to use Xero. Thank you so much for taking the time to consider me as your next Accountant/Bookkeeper and regardless of your choice, I am wishing you a great day ahead.
