Mary May Balucan – Clerk, ESL Teacher, Bookkeeper

I have been working for the last 7 years non-stop, switching from private to a government organisation. I have obtained skills I have never imagined learning while I was still studying. Skills like clerical tasks, admin support, customer support, and frontline services thru emails, phone calls, and client queries. I also assisted clients from the USA in processing payroll and reports using Quickbooks. All of these helped me develop my skills and abilities in providing quality service to all my clients and workplace.

I have learned all these years that quality service and client satisfaction should always be the priority. Just as I was beginning to get settled into my job in the government setting, the pandemic hit. This caused a lot of realisations in different aspects of my life. Not just in my workplace, but also in my dreams and life as a whole. Working from home gave me a lot of opportunities. This liberty gave me more time since I don’t wake up early and travel for work. I even got another job teaching Chinese kids ranging from 3 to 15. I teach English lessons through an online platform. This helped me improve my patience in handling difficult situations and working well under pressure as teaching kids have different personalities and have to adjust from time to time. I can say it really is a difficult one since your goal for them is to learn and have fun.

I was really happy and contented at that time knowing that I get to pay my bills and enjoy life. But things don’t always go the way you would want them to be. The world is slowly easing up to the new normal. We had to go back to the office, which made it really hard for me since I have another job. I had to quit teaching and focus more on my job as a clerk.

After carefully thinking, I have mustered up the courage to follow my dream of becoming a Virtual Assistant. Here I am slowly achieving the work I have been wanting to do. I want to get a client where I can offer all my skills and abilities by helping them with their business and grow together as a team. Also, I always consider myself a ‘forever student’ eager to improve and build my career altogether. I am willing to learn day by day and impart those to the organisation for success.
