Megan Clare S. Bocao – Sales Coordinator
I am a graduate of University of Santo Tomas with a degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management. Shortly after I finished my degree, I took up a post baccalaureate short course in Professional Event Management at De La Salle – College of St. Benilde for I had developed an interest in the field of events while I was in college.
I initially wanted to build a career in the events industry, but eventually decided to pursue a career in sales instead and landed my first job, as an Account Manager for a start-up Online Travel Agency run by Japanese management. I was required to travel frequently to different local destinations and have meetings with existing accounts to discuss concerns and performance, deliver concise sales pitches to various hotel management within our targeted list of accounts, and eventually make them a hotel partner. Hotel acquisition is more often than not, a lengthy procedure but as a goal driven individual, I was able to successfully handle major areas such as: Metro Manila and Cebu.
Our individual KPI is to get at least 8 contracts signed and launched on the website every month under the required opening standards such as: no commission less than 15%, daily room allocation, extranet training to hotel staff and securing complete hotel information – all in the span of one month.
With my assertive attitude and good time management skills, I consistently achieved (and sometimes exceeded) my monthly target. However, in order to obtain continuous career growth in the hospitality industry, I made a decision to leave my first job after 2 years and seek job opportunities in hotel sales.
I was hired as a Manila-based Sales Coordinator in a luxury resort in Boracay Island managed by a well-known 5-star international hotel chain. I did not have any background in hotel sales at the time, so I had to start from scratch. With minimal training and guidance, I immediately learned hotel sales processes and started handling accounts on behalf of my managers. Our team was significantly small for a big hotel. We were a total of 6 in the team with only two managers on board. So even though I was the coordinator, I had to perform managerial duties such as sales calls, negotiating with wholesale and corporate accounts, dealing with VVIP clientele and closing group contract deals.
As a Sales Coordinator, I perform administrative duties for the whole Sales Department such as, but not limited to: sales reports, presentations, travel arrangements, visa processing, appointment setting, telemarketing and preparation of proposals and contracts.
In this job I also get to apply my knowledge in event management as I spearheaded several sales events during my tenure; Wholesale Appreciation Party, Telemarketing Event, Program Launches, etc.
I have a solid foundation and experience in Sales and Account Management and I guarantee that I would not fall short as your Virtual Assistant. I will work on every assigned task in my full ability and with great enthusiasm – but most importantly, I do not over-promise and under deliver.
