Nigel Gwynne La Madrid – Video Editor, Graphic Designer

Hi, I’m Nigel Gwynne A. La Madrid, but you can call me Nigel, as my friends do. I am a fresh graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Science from Saint Louis University and a board-certified medical laboratory scientist by the PRC. Experiencing the pandemic firsthand made me realise the viability of working from home, and considering that many medical professionals in the Philippines are often underpaid, I sought alternative ways to utilise my skills, which led me to become a virtual assistant.

I aspire to become a doctor, and I’m currently working as a virtual assistant to save up for medical school. If you’re wondering why I’m not a medical virtual assistant, the truth is, I tried it. However, I found it stressful due to the long hours of intensive training, which was draining. So, I chose to combine my career with something I genuinely enjoy—graphic design and video editing—rather than sticking to the medical side. However, I’ll be happy as a general virtual assistant as well.

My background in editing began in high school when I made gaming videos for myself and my friends. This hobby eventually extended into school projects, particularly ones involving role-plays and presentations. In college, I joined the university’s theatre group, SLU CCA, where I was both an actor and an editor. I primarily edited promotional materials such as posters and videos, including trailers, behind-the-scenes content, and day-one edits for shows. This experience enhanced my time management skills and strengthened my ability to deliver quality work under tight deadlines, which I believe is crucial in the creative field.

Although I am relatively new to remote work and the professional world in general, I am committed to adapting quickly and growing in this environment. Working from home also gives me the chance to spend time with my cat, Charcoal, who has been a constant source of motivation and emotional support during tough times. It also allows me more personal time, which is essential for maintaining a balanced lifestyle.

Looking ahead, I aim to grow within the virtual assistant field, acquiring new skills and knowledge to not only advance my career but also to enrich my personal life. I’m confident that I can deliver excellent work while continuing to learn and improve.

Thank you for considering me, and I hope to work with your team as a virtual assistant and as a future colleague.
