Phoebe Jeanne Ponce – Customer Relations Specialist
Hi my name is Phoebe Jeanne Ponce. I am the youngest among 6 siblings; 1 boy and the rest are girls. My mum is a single mother; she worked as a clinical instructor in the past and currently works as a nurse in a hotel clinic.
I am currently taking up Bachelor of Science in Airline Management and at the same time working in a BPO company to pay for my education.
I have been independent since I was 18 years of age. I stopped schooling because my mum couldn’t afford to pay for my tuition. In the Philippines, you cannot get a job if you are underage. There were countless nights that I cried myself to sleep burdened with the thought that I would not be able to pursue my goal and finish my studies. Since then, I promised myself once I turned 18 I would look for a job to pay for my education, achieve my goals and make my mum proud.
Here I am now, 25 years old, still working to achieve my goals in life. But before I continue and share my achievements, I would like to look back to the experiences and struggles that brought me to where I am now.
With my first job, I was hired part time and worked as a market research. This contract lasted for a year. I was so motivated because I finally had my own money… but was not motivated enough in pursuing my studies. I became so overwhelmed that I forgot what my goal really was and the reason why I needed a job in the first place!
When I enrolled, I discovered that part time work was not enough to pay for my studies – because I was supporting my mum, my other siblings and trying to cover my own personal needs. So I quit my job and applied to another company for a full-time job. I was hired and worked as a Customer Retention Representative for 4 months. My financial needs became inflated and the company I worked for didn’t have good benefits. So I quit again.
I was young and naive, making sudden decisions and not caring how it would affect my career history. A few months after I resigned, I applied to another company that was referred by my friend and was hired right away. Although the pay was not that good, the benefits were, and that made it all worth it.
I was a Customer Representative for a year. I worked hard and aimed to be an officer. After almost 2 years in my career, I applied for a Quality Assurance Coordinator post and was hired. It was the biggest achievement I had so far. After 2 years being an officer, my co-workers encouraged me to pursue my studies. I told them I may not be able to do both, especially as I was now an officer with a lot of responsibilities… but deep inside I was longing to graduate and get a diploma. So I decided to enroll again and that’s where I am now, finishing my studies at the same time as working.
The goal I am currently striving for is to make this world a better place to live in by starting the changes within myself. Sure, I’ve had bad experiences in my life too, but this is exactly what made me the way I am now: grateful, full of love, with a desire to study well because it will help me become a successful person in the future and have a high quality of life. I believe that it is manifesting day by day and I feel even more responsibility for what I do and where I go. With all I already have, I know that I’m on the right path and I will do my best to inspire others to live the way they feel like living as well.
