Overview

Rhea Johara Reyna – Virtual Assistant, YouTube Script Writer

Never have I thought of working as a virtual assistant after obtaining my license as a Pharmacist. Throughout my academic years, I’ve envisioned myself working retail while serving patients and accommodating their needs. The job was challenging because I had to commute for 2 hours a day, and the store I was assigned to was prone to floods. But hey, I was able to get by.

As soon as the pandemic hit in the year 2020, I made the bold decision to shift my career to a work-from-home setup. COVID was no joke back then, and I feared for my mother’s safety. And boy, making the shift was the best move I could ever make.

Working from home has allowed me to spend time with my aging mother and our two lovely dogs. We weren’t close from the start though, and I grew closer to my mom only when my dad died. My father passed as soon as I obtained my license. I remember sharing the news with him while we were staying at the hospital. When he died, something back then snapped in me, and I realised that life was indeed… short. My father’s passing urged me to spend each day with my mom, so I’d have no regrets.

Working from home has been a blessing and has allowed me to earn more than working at a pharmacy ever could. I can share meals with my mom and cook for her. We would share stories, and I’d ask her about how her service at church went. I can also hug my dogs anytime whenever I’m feeling down. They wouldn’t have to wait for me to come home at 11:00 pm.

Discovering the online world has allowed me to attain several milestones I’d never dreamt of achieving at this age. I was able to pay for the wedding of my dreams and travel by plane.

As a virtual assistant, I’m grateful to work in the comfort of my home. And so, I fuel myself with these positive thoughts, which serve as my motivation to give my 101% at work. I’ve learned a lot through training and teaching myself different skills through research, and I was assigned a variety of tasks. I’ve learned to adjust to an ever-changing environment and have learned to prioritise tasks according to the company’s needs. But I know that I have much more to learn.
