Samantha Palmera – Accounting

I am Samantha S. Palmera, 23 years old. I am the 5th out of 7 children in the family. I am a graduate from the Ateneo de Davao University with a degree in Bachelor of Science in Accounting Technology.

I worked as an Accounting Staff at JEWM Agro-Industrial Corporation where my responsibilities change depending on the position they assigned me, from — inventory to costing and accounts payable. During my stay in this company, I have realized that I can easily adapt on both the work environment and the tasks given. In a span of 10 months, I have learned a lot about my profession and have used the theories I’ve learned from school with the transactions in the company.

I have then stumbled upon the opportunity of working for Saratel Solutions Inc., where I worked as a bookkeeper for their Australian clients. The environment was different from my previous job. Our time was tracked and there’s a time-limit to finish certain tasks. Despite this, I was still able to perform well.

I was first trained in using Xero in performing bank reconciliations, creating bank rules for recurring transactions during the reconciliation, preparing payroll drafts for certain clients, and creating journal entries for any adjustments. After that, I started preparing Quarterly Business Activity Statements for our clients who use Xero. Once I became familiar with BAS, I was then assigned to prepare drafts for annual tax returns—ITR, CTR, PTR, TTR, and SMSF—through Xero Practice Manager. The next thing that they taught me was using MYOB, Quickbooks, Reckon, and other in-house accounting software that clients require. Also, I have been tasked in assisting the accounting manager with drafting emails to answer tax queries from the client.

Due to the pandemic, I have decided to pursue a work-from-home setup to avoid the risks of infection during the everyday travel from our house to the office and vice- versa. I might be a newbie compared to others who are veterans in this field, but I have my strengths as a hard-working employee who is persistent and diligent in learning, honest, and flexible with work.
