Jayvee Adrian Cola – IT Support

Hi, I am Jayvee Adrian Cola; you can call me Jayvee. I am a father of 2; the eldest is a girl, and the other is expected to be born in April of 2025. I graduated from Cebu Technological University – Danao, taking up a Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management. I took up hospitality management in college, but after I graduated, I guess my calling was to be a technical support person since I am really into computer repairs and assembly. Most of my friends contact me to do a PC cleanup, clean installation, computer game installation, and PC builds. I am currently doing self-study on how to do the water cooling system. I am very amazed by the liquid cooling system; that is why I am mostly watching YouTube tutorials on how to do it. Most of my builds are just fan-cooled setups since they are very budget-friendly and not that hard to assemble.

My first job was aligned with my course; I worked at Jollibee as a service crew, but it was just a part-time job. On the weekends, I usually do computer repairs for customers that contact me and do it at their home. I also travelled to Australia when we competed at the World Supremacy Battlegrounds in 2016 and worked with my dad as a construction worker. When I went home to the Philippines, I started applying for a job and got accepted at the Provincial Office as a community development assistant. My role was to do anti-drug seminars and discussions for municipal and city offices so that they would know the consequences when they got into illegal drugs. When there are no seminars, I would work on the payrolls of all police officials handling drug cases so they would receive their incentives for the successful drug operations in their respective municipalities and cities.

I resigned at the provincial office and tried applying at call centres. I was hired at Microsoft as a technical support advocate, to which I was more than happy since it was my forte. I worked for 1 year and 11 months at Microsoft.

Then the sudden downfall of my career occurred. I have absences due to my dad’s medical condition, which is aortic aneurysm. My dad was in and out of the hospital since he mostly experiences dizziness and shortness of breath. I have tried to explain it to my team leads and managers, but there are no excuses for them. I do understand since they will be the ones to suffer for my absences, the team needs high grades, but I was the one pulling them down. I resigned and was rendered for 30 days, but in between that, there were a lot of absences. Once I was done with it, I was focused on taking care of my father.

The night of September 25, 2024, my father experienced a heart attack; we rushed him to the hospital that night. He was checked through laboratory tests and came up with a bad result; doctors won’t let him go home since my father needs an urgent open heart operation. We were saddened by the news, but my dad really wants to continue with the operation. We searched for funding on social media to help us with the down payment for the operation since they can’t start with the operation if we can’t pay for the down payment. The down payment was around 600,000 pesos, and we really worked hard looking for help. The day of the operation, it was October 5, 2024, my father was moved to the operating room, and we accompanied him going there. He said he loved us so much and we could surpass this challenge. It was a 12-hour-long operation. On October 6, 2024, he was recovering for almost 6 hours, but at the 6th hour, it was very hard to revive him. He passed away last October 6, 2024, at 6:02 AM, and it was also my mother’s birthday.

Life really is hard sometimes, but God is always with us to make us strong to face all those challenges. As the saying goes, “Once a door closes, another one opens.”

Being a part of this team would be a great opportunity for me to stand back up on my feet and keep on going. My dad is my inspiration since he was a very hardworking person and would really find ways to support the family. Now that he is an angel, I know he is with me throughout this whole journey.

I really aim to grow with this company and would really do my best to be a part of this team. Working from home is a very great opportunity to do work and be with my family at the same time. This would really mean a lot.
