Kelechi Akobundu – Executive Virtual Assistant
Hi, I am Kelechi Gift Akobundu. I am from a very humble background of a family of 7. I am single and unmarried. I have a Bachelor of Science in Political Science/Public Administration from Rhema University and a Master of Science in Public Administration & Local Government from Nnamdi Azikiwe University. Over the years, I have nursed the idea of working from home until an opportunity showed in 2016 when I worked as a freelance resume and SOP writer for a senior friend who gets foreign gigs from clients in the US, UK, Australia, etc. My job description spanned across writing statement of purpose, personal statements, resumes, letter of recommendations, academic assignments, research works and so on. I was basically doing all these gigs to survive and keep my head above the ground.
I kept up with the gig until I saved up money to go back to school in 2017 for my Master’s program and struggled financially all through the program. After my program, I secured a teaching job and used the proceeds to take an online course on On-Demand IT skills with Digital Witch Community in order to develop myself and grow.
After acquiring the skill, I began to job hunt on Upwork, LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter and other platforms in order to secure a job. That went on till 2019, when I secured a job with Jonya House in Lagos, Nigeria. Basically, I have worked here for the last 5 years and learnt a lot on the job. I humbly served the CEO by working closely with her. Part of my responsibilities were to set up appointments, and efficiently manage and delegate tasks to other team members utilising Clickup, Hubspot, Trello and others. I also successfully managed the emails for the CEO and also drafted company correspondence. I also managed the calendar of the CEO.
For me, working remotely has always been my heart desire because it allows me to work at my own time and pace. It also allows me to work and travel while I earn at the same time. Also, working remotely for me involves discipline, dedication, perseverance, clear understanding and communication between me and the clients. You have to understand exactly in clear terms what the client wants and produce it in that manner. One thing about me is that I love research and taking up new challenges. When I do this, I usually encounter some issues and find a way to solve them and, in turn, gain a new insight at each time.
