Rochelle Mae Galvez – Civil Engineer, Outsource Design Engineer
Hello, I am Rochelle Mae V. Galvez. I am a Professional Civil Engineer here in the Philippines. I graduated in 2018 with a bachelor’s degree and then passed the board exam in the same year.
I have five years of work experience in different infrastructure projects. Capable of working with minimum supervision and committed to providing a high-quality service in every project. Can analyse and organise project data with accuracy and timeliness while utilising appropriate software applications such as AutoCAD, Autodesk Revit (AEC), Autodesk Inventor, Autodesk Navisworks, Primavera P6, PlanSwift, etc.
From my personal background, I am a breadwinner in my family and that is where the desire and hard work comes from. I always give my best because in everything that I do, I always put my passion into my profession while providing for the needs of my family. I am 27 years old, and I think that my experience in life gave me a better understanding to always look on the bright and positive side in every challenge I encounter.
On my first work that started in 2019, I worked in a government agency here in the Philippines, the National Irrigation Administration. I was assigned as a Civil Engineer for different tasks and roles such as Designer and Drafter. I was also assigned to estimate different structures and projects. We also conduct site inspections to ensure the accomplishments follow the duration assigned to it. During my free time, I learn software to improve and for additional knowledge. The project ended in June 2023 and I worked there for four years.
Right now, I am working as an Outsource Design Engineer in a Malaysian-based company and I realise working from home is really great. Aside from the big advantage of being a non-commuter anymore, it made me develop time management and allowed me to also develop time for myself especially when workload pressure rises. It also helps me to learn independently and be eager to learn more.
As of the moment, I am focused on this journey of working from home, and meeting different people through this platform both local and international. It also helps me to build my confidence step by step. I also observe that the gender in this profession does not matter as long as you are able to provide the desired output with your client. From my previous experiences, gender discrimination is a big hindrance to working in the Engineering Industry. Luckily, with work-from-home opportunities, they give you an equal chance and opportunity to grow and develop in your career while ensuring that you are also being paid right.
I always seek to find a job in which they can give me the opportunity to prove that I know I can accomplish every task assigned to me.
Hopefully, with my experience and journey, you can give me the chance and I know that I will do my best for it to be worth it.
