Darwin Garde – Customer Service Representative, Virtual Assistant

Hi there! My name is Darwin Garde. I have four siblings, and I am the youngest. I was born in Batangas City and grew up in Cupang, Antipolo. When I was 8 years old, my family decided to move to Iloilo for good in order to take care of my grandma. My favourite hobby is playing basketball, and I’ve been playing this sport since I was 9 years old. In 2010, I enrolled in college at Central Philippine University as a working student to help my family with the expenses since they could not afford to send me to college. I was a consistent Dean’s lister during my first year in college, and our department head took notice of my hard work and eventually offered me a full university scholarship, which I gladly accepted. I quit being a work student after my first year and focused solely on my studies until I graduated in 2014 with Latin honours.

Right after college, I worked in the BPO or call centre industry, and I’ve been there for almost 10 years. I had 5 years of customer service experience with both customer care (that’s for a Telecommunications company in the US, which is Comcast) and technical support for a Telco company as well in Canada, which is Bell Canada. And the remaining 5 years, I’ve spent them mostly working remotely, doing helpdesk support and employee engagement tasks.

I was promoted as a helpdesk support last 2020, and this was when the COVID pandemic broke out and our company had to send the employees home for the work-at-home or WAH program. The main purpose of the helpdesk program was to assist the employees with their internet and VPN connection issues and make sure to get them online for work. Two years later, I was promoted as an Employee Engagement officer in 2022, and our main role is to basically reach out to our employees and ask about their experience working in the company or if they had suggestions on how the company could make their work experience better.

After almost 10 years of working in the call centre, I decided to quit the industry and pursue freelancing or to become a virtual assistant. I’ve trained as a virtual assistant through online courses and coaches and acquired knowledge and skills in social media management, graphic design, email management, data entry, and calendar management.

I’m now eager to prove myself in the world of virtual assistance and help my future clients grow with the same passion I’ve invested in learning my skills.
