Mirabell Sevilla – Sales Assistant, Data Entry Specialist
I am the youngest of 3 siblings. My mother had me when she was 39. My father left us when I was very young, my brother and my sister have a different father and they are way older than me but growing up I never felt like an outcast, they never treated me differently.
Growing up, I could see that my mother could no longer support sending me to college so I had to find a way to make money to contribute somehow. I managed to only finish 2 years of college and then went on to find a job.
That’s when I was introduced to the call centre industry. I was only going to try it out and if it doesn’t pan out then I will just look for something else. I heard they hire high school graduates so I tried my luck and fortunately, I got in.
I will never forget the very first company that invited me to get interviewed. I can’t believe I aced it and for a while I liked working there. I thought it was chill because even if we were doing phone calls we had scripts. I left the company because even though I was promised a straight 8-hour job, they later on made changes and I was actually doing split shifts. Meaning, I would be there for the first 4 hours then have a 4 hour break and come back to finish the shift. It was not conducive for me since I had to commute for 2 hours to get home.
After that, I applied to different call centers and I got into most of them. I have experienced being a contract loader for a logistics company, a customer service representative for a ticketing company and a food delivery company. I have tried being an executive assistant for a fitness company. I even became an operations manager for an Airbnb cleaning company.
My most recent company was the one I had the most stability with because they didn’t require me to commute to get to the office, I was offered a work-from-home job and was even provided the equipment. I stayed with them for 2 and a half years however, my client changed their organisation and had to let go of their Filipino employees. Unfortunately, I was one of them. As sad as it was saying goodbye to them, I learned a lot and I will be using that knowledge for my future endeavors.
I am thankful that through my persistence to help out my family, I was able to experience a lot of things while I took care of the bills and bought us nice things. I have two little boys now and would like to continue taking care of them until they are able to look after themselves.
