Overview
Richard Edmund Florendo – Android Developer, Mobile Developer
Hi, I am Richard Edmund Florendo, or Richard and I am a young professional in the technology field, mainly programming. I graduated with a degree in Bachelor of Science in Information Technology at STI College Las Piñas during the pandemic in 2021. I originally applied to Mapua University as a Civil Engineer, but due to my attitude towards the profession and general disinterest, I flunked heavily and wasted years of my time on a path I did not truly want. After a bit of soul-searching, I figured that programming was what I truly wanted to do and changed course towards that goal. Despite the difficulties imposed by the pandemic and quarantine in the Philippines in the last year of my studies and other aforementioned setbacks, I still managed to graduate relatively early.
It took me a few months out of college to get into my first job, but I eventually landed one wherein I would be a mobile developer working from home. The first company I joined was not the best, nor was I in a great state of mind to take their offer, but I accepted the job anyway due to necessity. However difficult my experience was then, in the end I was grateful because I experienced being a solo developer for a big project, and I realised what I was truly capable of amidst any circumstances. I managed to study a new programming language in a month or less, and I was able to see that I could perform when I was asked to. I also learned to coordinate with a smaller team and how to handle roles adjacent to mine when necessary.
After a year in that position, I was offered by my parents who were working abroad in UAE to try my luck there. I spent months preparing to go and left behind my partner in the Philippines in hopes of finding a good and stable job in the UAE. Sadly, it was not meant to be, after 7-8 months of thorough searching and applying, I could not find a proper full-time job, and this and other personal issues caused me to go back to the Philippines.
Immediately after returning, I started looking for my next job, and eventually got into the second company. My experience in this most recent company was short but eventful. Being in this company taught me how to coordinate and interact with a big team of diverse job roles. It also taught me how to be more critical of my applications and how to value myself not based on any data, but on how I feel about myself. Overall, it was a great learning experience.
I have great experience working from home and have been doing so mostly in my professional career. Currently, I am still and am always learning more and newer technologies because the rate that technologies are progressing is astronomical in this age. Learning, adapting, and changing are the best qualities I can put forth in this ever-changing landscape as to not be left behind or deemed obsolete.
