To achieve success as a freelancer, it is essential to consider not only the nature of the job, but also the client you are working with. In recent years, many Filipino VAs have branched out to work with more clients throughout the globe… and have fallen in love with working with Australian clients… and for good reasons!

Time Difference

Australia is located in the southern hemisphere, between the Indian and the Pacific Oceans, south of Maritime Southeast Asia, and north of the Antarctic. The Philippines is situated in south-eastern Asia between the South China Sea and the Pacific Ocean. That said, Philippines Time is the same as the western region of Australia (aka Western Australia) and only 2 hours behind the eastern states of Australia.

As a VA, this means you avoid the graveyard shift… yawn!!! You get to enjoy a regular daytime job that allows you to create a healthy work-life balance. By the end of the day, you still have a lot of free time to do other things like spending time with your family and friends, watching your favourite TV shows, and nurturing your hobbies. Plus, you get to sleep early and wake up bright and fresh the next day. There’s no adjusting your body each time the weekend hits, to try and keep up with family and friends during the day.

Language and Communication

Australians are generally easy to talk to as they are direct in expressing their feelings and opinions. They are sincere, straightforward, and mean what they say – ‘no beating around the bush’ or ‘reading between the lines’. This allows you to easily understand your client and the tasks at hand.

Sense of Humour

Perhaps one of the most endearing things about Aussies is their unique sense of humour. They are not afraid to joke around. Some of them would throw sarcasm or even crack self-deprecating jokes to lighten up the mood. There’s nothing quite like sharing a good laugh with your peers and clients in the middle of a busy day. 😊

Friendly Nature

Aussies are undoubtedly among the friendliest people you’ll ever meet. Aside from their sense of humour, they are also known for their laid-back nature and open-minded attitude which helps build relationships with the people in their ‘space’ (whether it be physically or virtually). They pride themselves on being good friends and neighbours, and not just to people they know. With trust and mutual respect, most Australian clients will treat you as a friend and colleague rather than an employee.

“No Worries” Attitude

On top of their unique sense of humour and friendly nature, they are also known for their “no worries” attitude. Australians understand that nobody’s perfect. When something goes wrong, they focus on the solution rather than the problem. Instead of pointing out mistakes, most turn these pitfalls into an opportunity for learning.

Australians and Filipinos have a lot of things in common, which is why Filipino VAs love working with Aussies. They understand each other well, allowing them to create a healthy work environment that fosters growth and nurtures strong work relationships.
