Merick Abreu – Marketing Associate
Hi! I’m Merick Abreu, but you can call me Mer.
I graduated with honours from the Polytechnic University of the Philippines, where I took up Bachelor of Science in Business Administration major in Marketing Management.
I’ve been working in a sales and marketing team handling multiple and simultaneous marketing responsibilities for the past 5 years. I have an extensive background working for a diverse team and clients. I like being a team player with passion for achieving client goals.
I’ve been part of the training team at a Non-profit Norwegian company and I was assigned to preparing and delivering the marketing campaign plans. This includes designing the materials for visual impact and within the brand guidelines of the company. I am also adept in handling various social media channels and have also managed the calendar of events, forums conferences and arranging client meetings for our bosses. I also conducted market research and monitored the industry trends.
But commute is a challenge for me. Although I like my job, at this stage of my career, I realised I need to find a company where I see a long-term career path where I can also have time for myself and my family.
From that work, I acquired skills in graphic design and video editing. I can say that while I’m not an ‘artist’, I am creative. Because I believe, anything else in art is skill, which can be learned by anyone at anytime with the right amount of hard work and practice. What matters more is that I am open to trying new things and I know I’m a creative person. I also volunteered to work on some creative projects outside of my role because I realised how much I loved the creative side of marketing and wanted to gain more experience. I use Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Lightroom and Premier Pro for editing. I also use Mailchimp in email campaigns. Apart from this, I also took some short courses in Adobe Captivate, which allows me to take my PowerPoint presentation skills to the next level.
Probably my greatest strength is my reliability. Part of this is consistently being there, willing to assist and deliver results. I have a 100% on time record at work and have had it for the last five years. One thing that I will not forget that my manager told me was, “you’re our go-to guy!”. He told me that they can trust me to deliver even the tasks outside of my scope and always be willing to help. I consistently maintain my positive attitude towards work. Working with people of different profiles, backgrounds and requirements requires a lot of patience, understanding and self-control. When I was working as part of a diverse team, it enabled me to cope with different types of people that also honed me to work more effectively and efficiently.
Currently, I am residing in Laguna, a two-hour drive outside of Manila. And when I have free time, I like to travel places, eat good food and explore different cultures.
