Robert Bobby Quijano – Structural CAD Drafter, AutoCAD Expert

Hello to everyone out there. My name is Robert Bobby Quijano. A graduate of B.S. in Civil Engineering at the Mapua Institute of Technology in Manila (now known as Mapua University). A single guy who likes to travel and went to Singapore to work as a Structural Draftsman.

I learned a lot working with different nationalities and being mentored by the Chief Draftsman, a Singaporean who taught me the way detailing is done in Singapore. From Tender Stage up to the Construction Stage. It was really a good life being in Singapore – no traffic, a world-class transport system, an efficient way of doing things and mind you, showing courtesy for each other is also one of their good traits. I learned AutoCAD while in the Philippines and mastered it when I worked in Singapore though there are new 3D Software being used like Revit, Tekla and CADs RC. I am still learning about Revit and Tekla and these software aims to increase productivity in the Construction Sector and I believe it is already being used in every country.

My special skill is Post Tensioning. I have 16 years of experience doing this and definitely would be happy to share my knowledge to perhaps Junior Draftsmen. It would be my first time, if ever hired to join a Virtual Assistant Team and I am looking forward to the challenges that lies ahead and the opportunity to learn new things and add those to my skills. Just a throwback during the pandemic.

Our lives were affected by Covid-19 and it was not that easy. Unfortunately, I was retrenched considering I was working with that company for 16 years but this is business. The construction sector was heavily affected as construction was limited to some government approved projects due to what Singapore has introduced as Circuit Breaker to mitigate the impact of Covid-19 to all residents. But most affected were foreigners and must leave Singapore. It was the saddest day of my life when I left Singapore but life has to go on.

I continued to practice the new 3D Software in case the economy picks up and return to Singapore to work again. But I am confident the Singapore construction will continue as there are many on going projects but more on Infrastructures like the new Mass Rapid Transport (MRT) Lines. But time has changed about the way we work. We can now Work from Home (WFH) and I read a lot about these VA careers. And with the hope that I can still provide my AutoCAD expertise in an ever-changing world.
