Arlyn Maala – Virtual Bookkeeper
My name is Arlyn but some of my friends call me Lynar, just to have a nickname because I was born in an era where people’s names were predominantly limited to only one name 🙂
I am a persistent, self-motivated person who loves to perform bookkeeping jobs and administrative tasks under minimum supervision.
I am adept at doing accounting and bookkeeping tasks and have been doing it for 20 years. I also have knowledge in the use of MS Office Word and Excel, Google Apps, cloud-based accounting software like QuickBooks, Xero and Wave Accounting, any communication tools, as well as Canva and Photoshop – though I’m quite far from being an expert.
I am 46 years young and hail from a small, quaint town of Pagbilao in the province of Quezon, Philippines. Our town’s name came from “Papag”, a bamboo bed and “Bilao”, a circular woven basket.
I am a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Commerce Major in Marketing. I take pride in my job because even though I have not finished an accounting course, I was fortunate enough to be able to work in the field of accounting in one of the most popular pawnshops in the nearby city of our town. However, before I became an Accounting Assistant and Bookkeeper, I started as a Jewelry Clerk in the jewelry department of this company. After 6 months of working as a Jewelry Clerk, I was assigned to the financing department as a Loans Clerk. In this position, the tasks I performed were more on handling documentation on deeds of mortgage and updating of client’s loan reports that included making calls for delinquent clients. For 5 years of working in that position, I managed to get a good performance review from the management and a promotion was awarded to me. That’s how I started on the trail of the accounting field where I worked for 20 years.
When I learned about freelancing and virtual assistant jobs, I dreamed of becoming a freelancer. The first thing I asked was “How am I going to equip myself with the necessary skills?” So what I did was search for the skills I needed to upscale, online tools I needed to learn and other considerations I needed to prepare for.
Since I am a computer savvy person, it was quite easy for me to understand and learn the use of some applications and software that are available for free access. Through self-paced study, I was certified in QuickBooks and Xero. I am currently using Wave Accounting software for the poultry farm I am working with. Learning is a continuous process and that’s why for now, I continue to learn and study new skills to upgrade my skill set.
I am confident that the knowledge from my work experiences and my capability to learn new skills suitable for the job would make me a valuable addition to any team.
I will be more than eager and delighted to work with you! Thank you!
