Benfranson Benoza III – Accountant

Hi, I am Benfranson C. Benoza III, Ben for short. I am a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy graduate and a Certified Public Accountant in the Philippines.

I started working as an Accountant in a government agency last January 2020. I worked in a different province, which is quite far from where I was originally from. I was really excited at that time because finally, I was able to earn and help my family with the expenses and my sister’s tuition fee. But I was also nervous because it was my first time being away from them, and we didn’t have any relatives or friends in that place. But I took it to heart and accepted the job because we needed it.

Everything was fine at first. I loved what I was doing. Everyone was so nice and welcoming, but it took a sudden turn when the pandemic started. I was scared at that time, but I had to continue working because we needed the money. Every night, I would call my family and friends because I missed them so much.

After more than a year, I realised I was missing out on the moments I should have had with my family; Christmas, New Year, Birthdays, Father’s and Mother’s Day, and other occasions. While scrolling on Facebook, I saw a job opening for a work-from-home Bookkeeper position. I was enticed by the thought that I could earn and at the same time, I could be with my family. My friends and siblings were against the idea of me resigning from my current work because it was already a high position and had the security of tenure. I understand them, but I still took the leap of faith and chose to work from home because I don’t want to miss out on any moments anymore.

Applying is really hard because there’s a lot of competition. But luckily, I was able to transition to a home-based job. In every new step, there’s always a learning curve. It was different from what I was used to. But with the support from my family and new people I met along the way, I was able to adapt to this new environment.

Throughout the year, I was able to build my experience as a virtual bookkeeper. I learned real estate, eCommerce, and other service-based accounting. I was also able to familiarize myself with various software like Xero, Quickbooks, Dext, Rippling, ADP, Buildium, Innago, Amazon Seller Central, Shopify, and other messaging apps like Slack, Discord, Skype, and Whatsapp. Being diligent, goal-oriented, reliable, always starting early, sending EODs, creating a checklist, constantly looking for ways to make the client’s life much easier, and providing solutions, are what make me an outstanding Virtual Assistant.

Looking back, I was so thankful that I got to know this kind of job; that is why I always aim to learn more skills and knowledge so that I can better serve my client.
