Overview

Brigette Irish Valencia – Bookkeeper

I am an accountant by heart. When I was still a high school student, I knew already what career I wanted to pursue in the future, which is accounting. Maybe it’s because establishing a business runs in our family’s blood. It is I think a major factor. Seeing my parents and extended family establish their own business motivates me to put up a business too.

When I entered Senior high school, I took up the ABM (Accountancy, Business and Management) strand, that’s the time I realized that my heart wanted to pursue accounting. I enjoy other business courses too but studying accounting makes my heart happy. After school, I was also helping my parents with our family business. I volunteered to do accounting and financial management tasks. Through this, I finally understand that I really want to pursue accounting in college. I really want to be a successful Certified Public Accountant someday. I was doing the daily bookkeeping of our store while studying. I prepare profit and loss statements, balance sheets and management reports.

When I entered college, my passion for accounting was challenged. It made me question myself if I wanted to pursue accounting until I graduated. Every year, I thought I was surviving college because I had to, but OJT (On-the-Job Training) happened. This experience proved to me that my heart really wants an accounting. I did my internship at a local accounting firm as an accounting/audit intern. I enjoyed my days there. I enjoyed the company of my fellow interns and accounting and audit associates.

My daily tasks there were recording of their client’s invoices and bills in their accounting software is QuickBooks Desktop. I also traced collections to clients’ bank statements and passbooks, computed clients’ tax due, assisted clients regarding the registration of their business, prepared clients’ PPE lapsing schedules, assisted clients regarding amendments to their local permits, prepared client’s BIR Form 1601-C, and assisting associates in organizing and sorting their working papers. It was really great experience because I had to interact with their clients also. I had fun working with them, and I had also interaction with the managing partners of the firm. They also want me to be absorbed by the firm, but I said that I needed to think because my original plan really is to have a work-from-home so that I can do other things aside from work, work-life balance is important for me.
