Deland Abalos – Customer Service Representative
My name is Deland S. Abalos. I am 33 years old. I am a family man with 2 kids from La Carlota City, Negros Occidental, Philippines.
I used to be a musician and a singer. I played at local bars at night for 5 days a week. However, I became a father at a very young age and decided to set aside my passion for music to find a stable job.
I’ve been working in the BPO industry for 9 years and I can say it is a very challenging ride. At first, I had a hard time adjusting to working at night. When I got my momentum back, I was able to manage my time so that I could still play and sing at local bars 3 to 4 times a week. It was hard but it did not stop me from being determined and to work hard for my family.
I started as a Customer Service Representative for a travel account where I needed to answer complaints from customers about their hotel and flight reservations. Communicating and resolving unknown issues may be difficult in a way but this experience improved my skills in communication and Customer Service.
After 2 years, I decided to transfer to a technical account to improve my technical skills. Trouble shooting Internet and computers really excites me. I learned a lot of new things and challenged myself again since this account required sales after you resolve the customers issue. Yes! Sales! Incentives bring it on! That was really challenging but also rewarding. Since I was a top performer in technical and sales, I was promoted to be a Subject Matter Expert where I helped trainees with their tasks and coached them in sales. I also sent daily reports to the client.
I decided to work at home since my wife convinced me as its more practical and beneficial for us. I can always be with my boys and no longer need to travel 52 kilometers each day. No need to worry about the weather conditions and the best part is I can stay in the comfort of my home while earning at the same time.
