Doreen Acaylar – Administrative Assistant, Ecommerce

doreen-amor-acaylar-vaHi, I am Doreen Amor Acaylar, and this is my story.

Once upon a time…the end.

Just kidding! I’m not a fan of a stiff environment because it’s boring. We can always inject life with a bit of humour, and still be successful.

Seriously though, I am a single mum. I have one beautiful and talented daughter, and she’s turning 16 this year. She’s my main inspiration and motivation in aiming for a comfortable life. I guess my life’s journey really began when I had her. Just like any other journey, mine has not always been an easy one.

I am an undergraduate of Computer Secretarial (with focus on Office Management), and I ranked in the top 5% of the class. I was the Class President, and also the elected Vice President of the student government in the college department of the school (De La Salle Andres Soriano Memorial College).

I don’t consider being an undergraduate as a hindrance to getting work opportunities or becoming successful in life. However, I don’t also encourage the youth not to get a degree.

In the BPO industry, a college degree is not a necessity.
I started working in the industry as a Call Center Representative from 2004 to 2012. I took a break from the BPO world and became an ESL (English as a Secondary Language) teacher sometime in 2009. The compensation package was way too low, so, I went back to the BPO industry.

In 2012, I then started my Virtual Assistant/Executive journey in both office-based and home-based setup.

I learned a great deal from my work experiences. My skill set includes, but is not limited to admin/general office management, email support/management, a bit of email marketing, staff management (including payroll and onboarding new staff), order processing using BigCommerce platform, and bookkeeping using Xero Accounting software.
I can take on any ad hoc tasks given to me, even if I’m not familiar with the tasks or the tools. I just need to learn them. Learning is a continuous process, anyway, and to quote Helen Hayes, “The expert at anything was once a beginner”.

doreen-amor-acaylar-vaAs per my DISC profile, I am very individualistic. I seek independence and freedom – this is true because I can definitely work well with less supervision. It is just a matter of how one handles the freedom given. I couple it with integrity. So, you do not have to worry even a bit that that I am oceans away, and that I am either working from home or from anywhere.

It also listed that my personal fear is being wrong. We all make mistakes and that is what makes us human. I have had my fair share of mistakes but what matters is that I learned from those mistakes. I may still fear that I might do something wrong, but that is because I am passionate about what I do.

I am comfortable with order and planning, and this would help a lot when it comes to handling your business. It is important to organise and plan everything well to achieve your business goals.

I am also mature enough not to be defensive when I am criticised about certain things. I will take criticisms constructively, regardless of how they are delivered, because I know that I would be the one to benefit from it.

I may be headstrong under stress, but that is totally fine because that demonstrates that I know my own mind, and since I am highly conscientious, it is safe to say that I aim to do what is right and still perform well.

I also aim for precision, accuracy and quality of results.
I do not want to settle for substandard results. I will always prioritise the quality, rather than the quantity.
These values are very helpful in making marketing materials be noteworthy and effective.

As a whole, my goals are to achieve stable and reliable accomplishments, through all those traits that I mostly possess.

Ideally, I want to be part of a company that offers equal opportunity, career growth and the ability to work from anywhere (which is just the cherry on top).

With the new normal, let’s all stay safe while still being productive.
