Edwin Vercaza – Audit, Accounting, Bookkeeping

edwin-vercaza-vaHi, I am Edwin Vercaza, my friends call me “Dwin” and you may also do so. I am happily married and blessed with two wonderful kids. I graduated with a degree in Bachelor of Science in Accountancy from the Polytechnic University of the Philippines. Before diving into freelancing. I had been an office man for around twenty years until sometime in 2016, a good friend convinced me to try my fate on another platform. I really had no regrets about discovering this other source of living. I love the time freedom, more lucrative income, and the chance to make more clients happy.

My career started out as a Junior Auditor for an Auditing firm, then accountant, then bookkeeper, and so forth, and so on. In my 20 years of being employed, around 15 years were spent in the related fields of bookkeeping/accounting/audit/taxation. During the other 5 years, I had the chance to take on HR/Admin and Customer Service positions.

To be honest, when I discovered that there were other ways to earn money other than “8-5”, plus the fact that 3 clients were already waiting for me, referred by my good friend, it was not a very difficult decision to try freelancing. But for sure, skill in dealing with clients was not an overnight thing. I had to develop that as time went on, with the assistance of my good friend, especially in my first year of doing this business. Thanks also to my stints with the various auditing firms I had worked for wherein auditors like me were trained to interact with clients during audit evidence gathering, progress reporting, and other phases of the audit. They all contributed to the progress of my interpersonal skills and my freelancing skills as a whole. But that was local freelancing. Right now, I’m trying to expand my horizon by engaging in online freelancing and catering to overseas clients. Unlike my local freelancing practice which is usually done in a face-to-face, less technologically-dependent means, online freelancing demands technological savvy. Thank God, compared to where I began several months ago, I can say that I have adjusted myself to this digital platform. I’m ready to serve my future overseas clients with utmost dedication and excellent client satisfaction. I’m eager to take on Virtual Assistant positions relating to data entry, bookkeeping, accounting, payroll, Xero, proofreading, transcribing, direct emailing, email marketing, and other positions I can handle.

edwin-vercaza-vaI have learned that, for a freelancer to perform at his best, he should assume that he co-owns his client’s business in regard to the quality of outputs he aims to deliver. With that in mind, he’ll do everything to perfect his job and deliver it on time at all times. No owner would like to use an erroneous report as the basis for business decisions. And if that report however precise its figures and beautifully- presented, is delivered late, it loses its relevance and he might simply throw that directly into the trash bin upon receipt. Another thing I’ve learned to be one of the greatest assets that a freelancer should possess is excellent communication, which does not mean being the best speaker or writer for his client, but rather the skill to meet with the client’s mind every step of the way. This type of communication skill requires being detailed and leaving no stone unturned. If the freelancer sees to it that he is able to clarify all matters to the client at the proper time, I do not think there will ever be a trust issue between the freelancer and the client.

Being a Virtual Assistant is a very unique profession. It takes a lot more skills and dedication to prepare than a typical office job, but it offers an entirely different set of perks, like time freedom and bigger net pay. My local freelancing experience partly prepared me for this. I’m ready to excel in this field. I’m eager to apply my God-given skills. I’m aching to help my clients grow their businesses and live their lives more enjoyably.

For me, learning is a lifestyle. It’s my goal to learn new skills and knowledge to make me a better person and a better Virtual Assistant.
