Mary Jaicint Lee Besinga – Subject Matter Expert

From a young age, I was fascinated by the efforts made by doctors and nurses in saving lives. I’ve dreamed of being a doctor to help everyone and also to at least help my parents regarding their health. I wanted to be there taking care of them (not talking about being a carer, lol). Anyways, I just realised during my 4th year of HS season, it’s the time to decide what the career path I’m going to take is, and then I learned from one of my friend’s sisters that nursing and becoming a doctor requires extensive training and learnings, and most of the time, they’ll be called out of nowhere, like more on demand regarding the tasks, responsibilities, and duties of being a nurse or a doctor. And from that moment, I was like, how am I going to take care of my family if it’ll require me long years in studies. So, I came across a motivational statement that says, There are ways on how you can take care of your parents. And I used it as my inspiration to take another course, so basically, I have chosen accounting, as a lot of my teachers and advisors see a potential in me when it comes to analytical thinking and numbers, so they suggested being an architect, engineer, or accounting. My Mother is the only one who has a stable job and my father usually does the household chores. If we have enough funds we do small business selling fruits, fish, and meats for an extra income. Considering the situation, I know how expensive the architectural course is, and engineering course is not one of the offers in my School. So I choose Accounting due to the fact that it’ll also be a free  tuition for me on the same school where my mother work and also to lessen the burden of my parents as well, since my sister is also studying in college which is not on the same School with me she’s also a scholar, but her course is more expensive as it is since it’s a chemistry she took. So, in order for my parents not to worry about funds, I pick Accounting and aside from the reasons I’ve stated above, I’m also comfortable solving complex problems, analysing situations, and with numbers (but I need my calculator with me, should be scientific! lol). Moving forward, my career really took off when I joined Intuit QuickBooks as a technical Support Representative at first, where I honed my skills in handling complex financial processes. Over the years, I climbed the ranks to become a Subject Matter Expert, a role that challenged me to not only master the technical side of bookkeeping but also support and guide my team through the changes and challenges.

Working in the BPO Industry for over 7 years, especially on a graveyard shift, it has been both rewarding and, at the same time demanding. I’ve learned to thrive under pressure, adapt to constant changes, and develop resilience. My experience has also shaped me and my approach to problem-solving, whether it’s helping a client or customer with their financial records or assisting a colleague in navigating a tricky situation. Beyond my professional life, my family has played a significant role in shaping who I am. I’m very much thankful to the Lord that he gave me a wonderful and supportive family, they provided me with all the love in the world when the time gets tough they’re my inspiration and my motivators. Furthermore, I contribute to my sister’s expenses which has given me a deep sense of responsibility and motivation to excel in my career. It’s not always easy balancing work, family, and personal time, but knowing that I’m making a difference in my loved ones’ lives keeps me going and motivated. At home, my greatest companion is my cute lil pup, Scott. He’s VERY energetic, loving, and always seems to know when I need comfort after a long shift. Whether it’s his playful antics or his quiet presence whenever I’m home, he’s one of my biggest stress relievers.

When I’m not working, I enjoy the simple joys of life, nothing special actually. I value my peace and serenity, especially food! I love the contrast of spicy food followed by something sweet, which for me I find satisfying. I also unwind by listening to TJ Monterde’s songs (my idol), Dionela’s songs as well (Very soothing and you’ll learn new words!), other than that, I also listens to true crime podcasts like Rotten Mango, which fuels my curiosity about mysteries and psychology. Not only that, Stephanie Soo makes it more intriguing when she talks about the crimes, she’s the very first person who caught my attention whenever she tells stories. And I also enjoy the stories that Ray William Johnson shares, my favourite line from him is “FOOIINE!”.

Anyways, as I continue to grow in my career, my goal is to transition into a direct client work from home setup, where I can leverage my QuickBooks expertise and provide top-notch bookkeeping services. However, stepping into new opportunities always comes with a bit of fear, whether it’s navigating financial risks, securing high-value clients, or adapting to new technologies. But I’ve learned that the only way to grow is to face these fears head-on. Fighting! Well, I might get this converted into an MMK letter rather than just knowing myself more. Lol. Apologies!

Once again, this is a bit of a background of my life, and I hope you enjoy reading it. Thank you once again for this opportunity, and I look forward to hearing from you all.
