Mhay Himaya – QuickBooks Bookkeeping, Accounting

Hello, I’m Mhay Himaya, but feel free to call me Mhay. In 2019, I proudly earned my degree in Accountancy from the University of Makati, where I graduated with Latin honours, Magna Cum Laude. Following that achievement, I eagerly attempted the CPA board exam in October of the same year, but unfortunately, I didn’t pass. Although it was disheartening, I knew I had to move forward.

Since I’m the breadwinner for my family, I decided to put my plans of retaking the boards on hold. Instead, I focused on getting an entry-level accounting position. This was a crucial step that kickstarted my real-world journey in accounting, allowing me to apply my skills and knowledge in practical scenarios. I began my journey as an accounting analyst, and this role laid the foundation for my practical experience in accounting. It was a daunting experience, as I had to keep up with seasoned professionals. However, the feeling of applying what I had only learned from books in real-life situations was truly amazing.

Throughout my role, I successfully managed the entire record-to-report process, from preparing transaction entries to generating financial statements such as the Balance Sheet, Profit and Loss, Statement of Changes in Equity, and Cash Flow Statement. I also get to expose myself to using SAP as an accounting software. It was indeed a great experience but regrettably, I had to resign because I needed to find a job with a hybrid work setup, considering the circumstances of the pandemic.

Fortunately, I landed a job that offered a hybrid work setup. As a Senior Finance Specialist at Focus Global Inc., my main role was to ensure prompt and accurate processing of international supplier orders and handle various bank transactions using Microsoft Dynamics AX. Proactively monitoring supplier claims and managing monthly bank reconciliation for a portfolio of 17 accounts were key responsibilities. I also maintained precise records of corporate credit card transactions and collaborated with bankers for foreign exchange transactions. This role really brought out the best in me. Previously, I was a young, shy, and introverted individual, lacking confidence in verbal communication. However, in this position, I had the opportunity to interact with suppliers and participate in various projects aimed at enhancing work processes. This exposure made me more proactive and confident in voicing my opinions when needed, transforming me into a completely different person from who I used to be.

Although I’m currently enjoying my job, I believe there’s so much more to learn and achieve, including becoming a virtual assistant. It’s a popular trend nowadays as it offers a fully remote job, which is something everyone desires. As someone who values family greatly, this opportunity would be like a dream come true, as it would allow me to spend more time with my loved ones, especially my parents who are in their senior citizen era.

I hope for a client who is willing to take a chance on me and give me the opportunity to showcase my capabilities. I’m a versatile person when it comes to learning, always open to new ideas and willing to explore areas beyond my comfort zone. My goal is to continue growing in my career, acquiring new skills and knowledge to enhance both my professional and personal life.
