Regin Victor Paloma – CSR, Sales and ESL Tutor

regin-victor-paloma-formalMy name is Regin Victor Paloma. My friends call me Victor. I’m the middle child of three brothers. My father was a private driver and he worked so hard in order for us to survive and my late mother (she died in August of 2019) was a housewife.

I am living a very simple life in the ‘not so countryside’ here in the Philippines. When I was young I never thought of who I wanted to be when I grew up. All I thought was I just wanted to be a successful person.

I consider myself a happy go lucky type of person. I always make sure I live in the moment and not worry too much about the future. I love photography; I like taking pictures of people, nature, animals, etc. I just always see the beauty in everything. I think this attitude makes a huge impact on my work.

I am a very organised person and see to it that the job is done before the said deadline.

Back in college, I took up Bachelor in Secondary Education Major in Math. Education is expensive here, and my parents could no longer support my education as my younger brother was also in college at that time. I needed to regin-victor-paloma-outdoorshelp my parents with their financial needs and support myself for my tuition fees as well, so I decided to work full time at 18 years of age. I worked at night in a BPO company (call center) as a Customer Service Representative and went to school during the day with a few hours of sleep. With my perseverance and dedication, I was able to graduate with flying colours and passed the Licensure Examination for Teachers. I never dreamed of becoming a teacher – but who knows I might be one in the future! All I thought of was just to get a degree.

After I graduated, I resigned from the BPO company and tried my luck in the freelancing world. Luckily, I got my first home-based job as a Sales Representative in a Real Estate Virtual Assistant company based in California for a year and a half. I also worked as an English tutor for Korean students. I have also worked as a Virtual Assistant with direct clients, mainly realtors. I may have gained these experiences, but that does not stop me from learning new skills.

I learned so many things during my career so far. I learned how valuable time is back when I was a working student, and learned to have good time management. I overcame the fear of talking to new people and dealing with rejection when I became a Sales Representative and as a Virtual Assistant. Lastly, as a tutor, it’s not just about teaching – I also learned how to be a good friend and appreciate everyone as an individual.

It’s been 4 years now since I started working home-based and I have never regret a single thing about it! I love the convenience of working at home. I think this kind of industry really fits me since I am more of an independent person and can work well with minimal supervision.

To end my story, I would like to leave you with a message:
“My goal is not to be better than anyone else, but to be better than I used to be.” – Wayne Dyer
