Annabelle Japa – Customer Service Representative, Finance Officer

I am Annabelle Japa, a widow with one child in college. I am in my middle age; it’s never been easy. But I can see myself learning and growing, finding a purpose and meaning in life makes us relevant. Making me keep going.

I came from a traditional industry where I worked as a bank employee on the frontline. Dealing each day with customers’ requests for documents or with bank-related transactions. Working with customer service, develops a nature of collaborative and problem-solving skills. In my previous role, I often dealt with sensitive customer data and financial info. To ensure security, I strictly followed company protocols, used secure communication channels and regularly changed passwords. I also took data privacy to stay up to date with best practices and compliance regulations.

I shifted to the BPO or call centre industry when I had an early retirement with the bank, I had worked with due to family matters as well as the chance of building a life as married with one child. It was never easy to be a call centre agent. But with a willingness of heart, being collaborative and seeking assistance to ensure that I can do my work correctly. I am thankful for my past and co-employees who had shown willingness to teach me. From there during the COVID period, I had the chance to work back with an e-commerce traditional company that leans more with technology.

Going back to my hometown, friends mentioned about working remotely, but by then I needed to move fast, so I had to work back with a local call centre. But always, I keep on thinking of working remotely due to family responsibilities of taking care of an aged parent as well as with a handicap younger brother as well as being a mother of a college child. Working remotely can help me personally to be with my son as well. It also makes sure that my mind is learning new things.

I had learned to do multiple tasks with deadlines. I would use task lists, set priorities based on urgency and importance and regularly reassess my workload. With work, the system evolves with technology. To improve effectively, show attitude, be willing to learn, proactive for common goals. I’m confident that I can do the same when working with the specific tools and software used in this role, as a remote worker.
