April Igot – Administrative Assistant, Marketing

april-igot-vaAn interviewer would ask “Where do you see yourself 5 years from now?”

A question that is commonly asked during an interview yet always leaves me dumbfounded because who knows where life takes me in the coming years.

Hi, I am April Trexie Igot, I prefer to be called Trexie as it sounds fab!

I am a Communications graduate with a Magna Cumlaude award at University of San Jose – Recoletos. I was expected to take the career path which is related to media. For sure, I dreamed to be a broadcaster (because who does not want to be featured on TV?), I even more dreamed to be a film editor/producer/director. That could’ve been a WOW for my family and me.

But sometimes the odds are not in your favor.

I never thought that this career called “Virtual Assistant” existed. I took the leap, chose this track, and started my VA journey as a Junior Administrative and Marketing Assistant in a Retail leasing company. I was new to this industry and hesitant on what I should do. Little did I know I began learning about the process and acquired different skills.

april-igot-vaOver the years with my dedication and willingness to learn I have strengthened my experience through developing my skills of client support, social media and digital marketing, CRM Automations, graphic designing, branding, reporting, email and calendar monitoring, document organizing, organizational chart designing, document formatting, creating fillable and interactive forms, WordPress updates, and slide presentation creation. I find it a fun learning these skills and open to learning more. My previous clients would commend me for being an excellent Virtual Assistant because I’ve established accuracy, flexibility, and a great sense of initiative.

I didn’t have any idea where I would see myself 5 years ago. I’ve let life take me to wherever it leads me, and here I am today [after 5 years] I’m a proud Digital Marketing & Administrative Assistant.

My goal is to continuously learn and upgrade my skills for career growth and who knows I’ll flourish more in being a Virtual Assistant.

The odds may not be in our favor but life has its own way of leading you to where you’re destined to be. There were bumps along the road but with persistence and eagerness to strive, it will be all worth it.

So, no matter how many skills I learned I always assess myself and go back to the question – “Where do I see myself 5 years from now?”
