Christine Yambao – Accounting

christine-joy-yambao-vaHello there! I’m Christine Joy R. Yambao, a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Accountancy and with a master’s degree in Business Administration at University of Mindanao. I am also an NCIII Certified Bookkeeper. But before graduating from college, I already applied for jobs – this is my way of practicing and gaining experience in job hunting and interviews.

First stop, to a BPO company. Year 2007, the time when BPO companies started to grow more here in the Philippines. Many have tried, but only few are chosen. Luckily, I am one of the chosen, but eventually have to turn down the offer because it required me to be relocated in Manila and my heart is not yet ready to leave Davao.

Second try, to another BPO company. Here, I actually applied for a back-office staff – in accounting department. But after the exam, we were told that they are filling up the PSR (Product Service Representative) position. Nonetheless, I continued with the training and passed all the exams. I only lasted for three months here since I’m not into “talking” as the main role.

Third work experience is with a business owned by a family friend. This was my first experience of using QuickBooks accounting system. Then I jumped to a merchandising company that uses MYOB accounting system. After how many months of being in private practice, I then tried to work in academe. This institution gave me the chance to impart my knowledge to the future business owners. It also helped me to build my self-esteem in facing crowds.

christine-joy-yambao-vaRecently, I worked in a rural bank. Here I was able to climbed the ladder of success. I started as a Branch Accountant. After four years, I was promoted to being a Branch Accounting Supervisor. My main role is to see the overall cash position and financial health of all the branches in Visayas and Mindanao. I am responsible in consolidating reports in Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Prepaid and Accrued Expenses, Income, Expenses, and Bank Reconciliations. Within this time – being able to manage work and time properly, I was able to accept a part-time bookkeeping job (using QuickBooks) for a fine dining restaurant owned and run by two Australian chefs. Another four years have passed and I was again promoted to being an Accounting and Budget Officer. My main job was to monitor the company’s annual budget, verify all budget requests, prepare all tax returns, and prepare the Central Bank’s required reports.

It was year 2017 when I enrolled in training for online marketers and learned a lot such as Administrative Service, Creative Service, Social Media Process, Documentation and Automation, Technical Assistance, Blogging, Basic Off-Page SEO, Email Marketing, and Basic Photoshop.

In 2020, one of my friends offered an online tutorial on Xero bookkeeping. I grabbed the opportunity to learn the basic. Now, I am in the mood to unleash my potential as an online freelancer. As a person who’s open to new challenge and adventure in life, I am more than willing to give extra just to deliver what is expected from me.
