David Okunade – Executive Assistance
Hi, My name is David Okunade; you can call me David. I graduated with a degree in biochemistry from the University of Ilorin. I always thought I was going to be a doctor from a young age, but I began to realise in my early days in the university that I could understand how software works without any instructions given. I could see a software and know how to use it almost immediately and understand each feature of the software or app. I would also try to figure out how each site interacts with each other. I’ve always enjoyed helping people, especially when it comes to providing support on tech-related issues. During my project, I would help most of my course mates on analysing data using Excel sheets and PowerPoint presentations.
After my degree, I started searching for courses I could do that could help me utilise this skill. I did my research and started working as an intern in a health organisation as an analyst. During this internship I noticed how my director would always struggle with performing tasks due to time factors, priorities, or little knowledge of the tools or software, so I volunteered to help him with the use of Excel for data entry, an issue with his email (either too much spam or a disorganised inbox), scheduling, making travel arrangements, and little tasks that enhanced his productivity and helped him focus on more important tasks.
Shortly after the internship, I came across a post on Facebook about virtual assistants and what they do and how they support businesses and executives. I took courses and started building my skills and got a job as an administrative assistant intern; through this, I started building experience working with managers, executives, and team members. I began to understand different work environments and individuals and working proactively to achieve organisational goals.
I have developed skills and proficiency in communication, time management, project management, handling client and stakeholder information, performing general administrative duties, handling inbound and outbound calls, reporting, scheduling, UI/UX designs, and client support. I find ways to have an impact on my colleagues, as I aim to provide a conducive working environment for my colleagues. My strengths include attention to details, proactiveness, reliability, a grit mindset, respect, confidentiality, teamwork, and communication.
I aim to grow further in my career and learn from clients and also add value and support their businesses.
