Ed Michael Plasus – Staff Nurse, Administrative Officer

Hello, My name is Ed Michael Plasus. My friends call me Ed. I am married with 2 wonderful kids. I finished with two college degrees. My first course was a Bachelor of Arts Major in Filipino in Mass Media at De La Salle University Manila and my second course was a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. I was fortunate that I got an athletic scholarship when I had my first course and was able to graduate from a prestigious university. I also finished a Certificate III in Individual Support at Sarina Russo Institute in Brisbane, Australia.

My working career started in sales as a Medical Representative of a pharmaceutical company. I also had an opportunity to work in one of the biggest shopping mall chains in the Philippines, specifically SM Lanang Premier as a building administrative officer. Corporate life is very challenging but is also very rewarding especially when you see the fruits of your labor. When the pandemic came, I felt that the calling for me to go back and practice my nursing profession was very evident. An opportunity came to me when the Department of Health opened a lot of nursing vacancies to fill out the need for medical staff in the hospital. Although it was scary I also felt that I had the responsibility to serve my country, especially during these difficult times and even though I had no prior experience, I applied and was eventually hired.

The experience I had working in the hospital during the pandemic opened a bigger opportunity for me abroad specifically in the United Kingdom. With the help of a local agency, I was able to work and bring my family there. It was not an easy journey for us as we needed to adjust and settle in a new country. We have gone through a lot of challenges but we managed to surpass it all. After a year, I and my wife decided that we wanted to go back to the Philippines. One of the major factors in our decision is the family support that we do not have as we have no relatives or close friends in London. Child care is very expensive and even if we tried hard to work out challenges, we feel that it is best for the family to go back home.

I have a friend who introduced me to the concept of Virtual Assistant. I find it a new opportunity for me to explore a new career opportunity. Even though I do not have any experience but I always believe that If one has the desire and willingness to learn, there is no work that cannot be done.
