Ejie Largo – Sales Representative

Hi, My name is Ejie Largo. I am 24 years old, born and raised in Minglanilla Cebu, Philippines. I graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Tourism Management from the University of San Jose-Recoletos.

After graduating, I applied J1 program, an internship in the USA. While processing, I worked as Travel Agent here in Cebu. I immediately fell in love with my job since it is something relevant to my degree. In March 2020, my visa was approved and was about to travel to the USA in but the pandemic hit, I had no choice but to wait another year, and while waiting I applied for a different kind of work-from-home job.

During the pandemic, I became a full-time ESL Teacher. I taught English to foreign students of different nationalities, from all ages. Last March of 2021, they officially allowed people to travel internationally so we immediately flew to the United States to take our internship. Unfortunately after a month, the hotel that I was working with closed due to the pandemic.

To make a living, I worked 3 jobs there. I had to support my family in the Philippines and pay my sister’s tuition fee. I worked 2 full-time jobs. I worked the night shift as Nursing Assistant and worked dayshift as Direct Reservation in a cruise line company which is a work-from-home setup. I also worked part-time at Amazon as a Sorter. Working in a different country comes with a complete change of lifestyle and it did for me. Having 2-3 jobs in a different country, in a different language does sound intimidating but it is an opportunity to experience something different and improve on skills, not only language skills but also life skills.

One of the major reasons why I wanted to work abroad was to investigate where my future career would be headed. Like most of us that enter our first real jobs, I started to realise what tasks I enjoyed doing and which jobs I was able to pursue for my future career. Also after a couple of weeks abroad, I realised that there are so many other benefits when it comes to working abroad. My cultural awareness increased in no time due to working in such an international environment, I became more creative.

Now I‘m back in the Philippines. I am currently working as a Sales Representative at a US-based Travel Agency company. We booked flights, hotels, and cruises, and built itineraries for the client. Working from home helps me to reduce commute time and cost. It also helps to reduce stress as one does not have to worry about getting to work on time. It helps to increase my productivity as one is not distracted by office politics.
